I hail with both hands raised for the Mother of Anaesthesia! 🙌🏽🙌🏽❤️ The head of our anaesthetic team, Dr. Marvina Obietan—a professional par excellence. I was almost stuttering while trying to ask her if she could help us anaesthetise the children in this initiative free of charge. Before I could even finish, she told me to “cut out the drama” and simply said she was coming to anaesthetise the children. And to the glory of God, the anaesthesia was smooth and safe for all her patients. 🙏🏽 Sometimes, I jokingly boast that, “If God no kill you and you enter coma, call Obietan—she go bring you back to life!” 😂😂 But jokes apart, Dr. Obietan’s contribution to this initiative has been enormous. This story ended well! ❤️ One of the challenges associated with chronic obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome caused by obstructive adenotonsillar enlargement is the risk of complications during the immediate recovery from general anaesthesia. The reversal and recovery period can be critical and requires expertise, close monitoring, and appropriate airway management. This is where Dr. Haruna, our anaesthesiologist, comes into the picture. I decided to share this video with the kind permission of the child’s mother, showing the child immediately after surgery and highlighting the beauty of excellent perioperative care when the right experts are involved. In surgery, it is not just about performing the operation; it is about having the right team, the right expertise, and the right care before, during, and after the procedure. Two days ago, we ran two theatre suites and successfully performed 9 adenotonsillectomies under our #65FreeAdenotonsillectomySurgeries initiative. I am deeply grateful to Dr. Wakwe, Dr. Ukeje both senior ENT surgeons, who honoured me with their time, expertise, and commitment to perform these surgeries free of charge. We had planned for 10 patients, but one patient unfortunately did not show up, so we proceeded with nine surgeries. A SUNDAY OF GRATITUDE ❤️🙏🏽 Today, I want to publicly and sincerely appreciate Dr. Johnson Joyce, an ENT surgeon and, above all, a wonderful friend, who came in today to perform adenotonsillectomy surgeries for our children completely free of charge as part of our #65FreeAdenotonsillectomy initiative, organised to mark the 65th birthday of Mr. Peter Obi. Dr. Joyce, I honestly do not know how to thank you enough. On a normal working day, if you were called upon to perform these surgeries, the value of your professional services for the number of surgeries you are doing today would be at least ₦3 million. Yet, today, you chose to give your time, skill, expertise and service freely, simply because you believe in what we are doing and because of the reward of friendship. That sacrifice means so much to me. You could have spent your Sunday resting or attending to your regular professional commitments, but instead, you chose to spend it giving these children a chance at better health and a better quality of life. Today, because of you, more children will go home to their parents with the hope of sleeping better, breathing better and living better. And I know that the parents will never forget what you have done for their children. This DM was sent to me on Christmas day, 2024. I never saw it. The young girl that sent it is 19 now. She sent me a message yesterday asking to chat with me and seek advise. That was how I saw the DM. I have replied to her, waiting to know what she has to say. Read her 2024 message: My parents started having issues 8 years ago. They were always arguing and fighting over little things which includes violence. My dad was always hitting my mom. A few months later, my dad stopped taking up his responsibilities. My dad is an engineer, and he stopped coming home. I used to ask my mom about everything, but she was always telling me not to worry about anything. She made me believe that my dad was a very bad dad who abandoned us. Foolishly, I didn't ask my dad anything either. So, 2 years ago we had a bike man who took my younger ones to school. The man also claimed to be a prophet, always giving me false prophecies concerning my dad, saying that we mustn't visit him. He's a dangerous person, telling me that I must not have anything to do with him. But I love my dad, so anytime I'm going to work, I will go and see him secretly without anyone knowing. I asked him what happened, and that was when he told me my mom has been cheating on him for years and that he had to leave because he couldn't take it anymore. Then I asked my mom if she has any idea why my dad stopped taking care of us. She said nothing, or that my dad is just selfish. I talked to my uncles about it, and then they called my mom. She told them that she and my dad didn't understand each other anymore and that it would be better if they lived their separate ways. My uncles begged her, but she didn't listen, and that is how my parents have been separated for the past three years. The youngest child of the family was terribly sick a few months ago, and I called my dad. He told me his work had not been going well, so my dad sent 20k twice and 10k once. My mom and her siblings paid the remaining balance because the boy had to undergo surgery. But one thing I noticed concerning my mom is that she didn't let anybody know about the money my dad sent. Once people asked if my dad paid anything, she would say no, he didn't pay anything. I was going through your page, sir, when I saw something you posted: 'Your daughter is the younger version of your wife.' I'm starting to have some of my mom's mindset, which I don't like. Sir, can you please advise me on how to have a good relationship with my dad and also teach my younger ones? It seems they might go astray with my mom's teaching. Thank you, sir. Merry Christmas.
