Wreckage being recovered of the NIGERIAN AIR FORCE ATR 42 that was flying very low just prior to crash. A Nigerian Air Force ATR 42, NAF 931, crashed near Igbokoda, Ondo State, on Monday while operating a flight from Benin City to Lagos. Air traffic controllers lost contact with the aircraft at approximately 09:13 local time. The wreckage was later located in a swampy area near Igbokoda, prompting search-and-recovery operations. Initial government reports stated that 32 people were on board — 25 passengers and seven crew members. The Nigerian Air Force subsequently released a list identifying 25 victims: 20 passengers and five crew members, and stated that no survivors have been found. President Bola Tinubu has ordered a full investigation into the crash and declared three days of national mourning. Eyewitnesses reported seeing the aircraft flying at very low altitude before descending toward the swamp. Suggestions that the crew may have attempted to avoid populated areas or land in the water remain unverified and should not be considered an established cause of the accident.
