Someone once posted about going to a $4,000/night luxury resort for the first time and asked, "how do I maximize the resources and perks?" There was a great response by a commenter, who said, "You don't. You're going to create memories...not to get the most resources for your money" This is such a subtle change that happens when you make more money. When I was growing up, we wanted perks. Free stuff. We used coupons on the rare occasions we ate out. Our "money lens" was frugality because we had to. But there are other money lenses, like experience, results, and delight. And it's a shame to go through life only looking at money through a single lens. However, it's very hard for people who grew up with only one money lens to imagine others. That's why the OP asked about free perks at a $4,000/night hotel. It's the same reason that the first time I flew first class, I ordered everything on the menu ("it's free!") and took the blanket and amenity bag with me. Now I never do. Nobody teaches this. It's not written about in any book. It's all implicit, highly class-based, and extremely subtle -- and important. My dream has always been to take a friend who newly made money and show them how to spend it -- why some stores charge $3,000 for a sweater, why restaurants charge 50x the price of Taco Bell, and on and on. I had to learn this on my own and I wish I'd had someone to guide me. Anyway, as you spend more, you don't have to scrape every perk possible. Sometimes there's something even more important than free stuff.
