This is one of the most famous churches in Kyiv — Kyiv Pechersk Lavra. Russia tried to make it its own and even looted it. When that failed, they decided to burn it down.

A small glimpse of Russia’s brutal attack on civilians in Kyiv that started after midnight. Unfortunately, there were direct hits. I see a lot of smoke and numerous small fires. Huge explosions still sound as I write this. Traditionally, people sing their favorite song about Putin la-la-la-la while ballistic missiles are being intercepted.

Trevor Noah pointed out that Germany doesn’t hide what it did during WW2. In fact, it openly displays monuments and teaches children about that history to make sure future generations do not repeat those mistakes. Moscow did the same thing, occupying land and killing alongside Hitler, but it never stopped waging wars because it was treated as a hero instead of being held accountable for its crimes. Russia should NOT be accepted as a member of the international community until it acknowledges its crimes and educates its people about them. Right now, it does the opposite. Children are taught that this is how things should be. They are told that all this pain, bloodshed, and killing are necessary. We cannot expect lasting peace from a society that is taught to see such things as acceptable and even honorable.
