This view misunderstands the opposition to the National Cathedral. People were not opposed to constructing a national cathedral for its sake. That's too simplistic. People were genuinely opposed to a President using public funds to construct a national cathedral in fulfillment of his private promise to God. One. And then two, people could not understand why a 'poor' country like ours will spend a billion cedis or more, demolish judges bungalows worth millions of dollars, allocate prime land in the middle of the capital, to do that. Surely, if all Christians and others who support the idea of building a national cathedral pool resources together and privately fund such a construction, no one can legitimately bat an eyelid. And so that people not well informed will not bring in the construction of a 'national mosque', that Mosque was not funded by the state. It was purely sponsored by the Turkish, fully. The land was given by the State, but as a replacement for what was a national mosque which was demolished by the state to make way for other developments.
