@ramez “Europe doesn’t have AC” is a bit misleading. I regularly go to various European Mediterranean countries and AC is standard. The last time I can remember stating somewhere (that wasn’t a tent) without AC was ~20yrs ago.

Some big & beautiful sunspots right now. From this afternoon from my back garden in Southampton. Large sunspot group AR4478 is near the middle. The slightly smaller AR4479 group to the right. Image taken with a SeeStar S30. But they are big enough to see via solar safety glasses.

@Official_WXUK @jcsuffolk111 The “sunny with light winds” is key for me. I’m not a fan of strong and/or gusty wind. The number of windy days is one of the things I don’t like about weather in the UK. I also get amused when people sit on the beach behind wind breaks - no, just no - time to go down the pub!

As of June 30th, the UK has seen 15 days of 30C+ in 2026 so far. This is the 10th highest on record since 1945 and is still the highest running of any season to date to June 30th. The record years of 1995 and 2018 weren't even on 10 by this point.

@TakeThatClouds Personally I thought the 1980’s had the best Glastonbury’s out of the ones I went to. Although, the weather was often awful, with some of the biggest mudbaths. In the early 1980’s there was no wall & no security. The 1st one I went cost £8! Although paying was optional.

This animation shows how the next European heatwave may take shape. This coming week, a sustained easterly flow descending from Spain's high inner plateau leads to extensive adiabatic warming of descending air, building a lot of heat just W of Europe, which later returns east.

@peacockreports @TheSnowDreamer When I got back to the UK the average summer weather felt “freezing”. Trouble with most UK heatwaves is that they are short & sharp. No time to acclimatise. When it gets hot it’s a shock, especially if you aren’t in the best of health.

@peacockreports @TheSnowDreamer I think, maybe if you are young & fit, you can get use to it. I remember in my youth spending considerable time in W Australia. Temps got to 42C. Staying in hostels there was no aircon. To begin with it was hell. Eventually I hardly noticed it was even hot...
