I drive a tow truck. My job is to take cars from people who can't pay. It sucks. I had an order for a 2015 Corolla. I pulled up at 2 AM. A woman ran out in her pajamas. She didn't scream. She didn't curse. She just pleaded. 'Please,' she begged. 'I have a job interview at 8 AM. If I don't get there, I can't pay the bank. If you take the car, I lose the job before I get it.' I looked in the backseat. Two car seats. I looked at her. She was shivering. I unhooked the chains. 'I couldn't find the VIN number,' I lied. 'I have to come back tomorrow night to verify it.' I handed her $40 from my wallet. 'Put some gas in it. Go get that job. You have 24 hours.' She got the job. She paid the bank. She kept the car. Sometimes you have to break the rules to fix a life.
