Cinderella just so happens to have a story that, when translated into a different medium, can still work without losing what made it charming in the first place because the original fairy tale is very grounded and only really requires a handful of magical elements to bring it to life. Even Mulan could've worked in live action despite the changes they added and how badly some of them were executed, because the basic story and setting still lend themselves to a more grounded approach. But Moana, though? It just doesn't work at all in photorealistic live action because so much of its appeal is built around the freedom and exaggeration of animation.
