The pattern repeats whenever a layer commoditizes: value migrates up, to whatever orchestrates it. Hardware to software. Now models. So the question isn't which model. It's how much of your value rests on a choice you'll redo in six months. The model is a plugin, not a bet.
Across 752k sessions, open weights aren't stuck at the bottom. GLM 5.2, MIT license, ranks 3rd on confirmed task success, ahead of most frontier. What sinks capable models isn't IQ. It's tool hallucination, failed recovery, silently dropping part of a task.
