In other words - your proposals are good, but there is no chance of them becoming policy in time to save the nation. Our spending trajectory will certainly result in catastrophe, and by that time people will be demanding that the government fix the problem that they themselves created. That fix will be forcibly making things more affordable by government decree - i.e. no more free markets.

Your first sentence is all I needed to read: "It isn’t too late. It will just require someone willing to do the unthinkable to career politicians:" That's why it's too late. It's not possible for democratically elected politicians to cut spending (which is supporting the American economy) enough without sending the US into an economic spiral, and thus losing their jobs.
