We witnessed something quite disturbing—or perhaps just plain weird—today in Dhaka. Dr Shafiq, the head of @BJI_Official (the party’s emir), invited foreign diplomats based in Dhaka to an Eid reception. What stood out as bizarre is the way he approached the male diplomats; frankly , I haven’t seen anything like that before. If the same thing happened in a Western context; imagine the top male leader of the UK Conservative Party doing that with male diplomats in London, it would be a serious scandal. Of course, hugging is a customary greeting on Eid, but this definitely isn’t the kind of hug you’d expect between men in that setting—very odd. The video, as shown in news reports, has music added to it.

এবারের বিজয়-দিবসটি অন্যরকম। সত্যিই অন্যরকম অনুভূতি। কারণ, জুলাই বিপ্লবের স্মৃতি যে এখনো তাজা। স্বাধীনতা ২.০ এর স্বাদ নিয়ে আমরা উদযাপন করছি— এবারের বিজয়ের দিনটি। কিন্তু আজকের এই দিনে দাঁড়িয়ে আমি খুব করে ভাবতে চাই— জুলাই আন্দোলনে শহীদ ও আহত ভাই-বোনদের ত্যাগের যথাযথ মূল্য কি আমরা দিতে পারছি? একাত্তরে আমরা লড়াই করেছিলাম— জালিম রেজিমের বিরুদ্ধে। অন্যায় আর বৈষম্যের বিরুদ্ধে। কিন্তু বছর না-ঘুরতেই আমাদের সেই বিজয় লুট হয়ে যায়। দেশ চলে যায় পুঁজিপতিদের পকেটে, কালচারাল এলিটদের দখলে। যার ফলাফল— ৭৪ এর ভয়াবহ দুর্ভিক্ষ। যার ফলাফল— নিজ দেশে থেকেও আমরা কোণঠাসা। এই কালচারাল এলিটরা বিগত ৫০ বছরে মুক্তিযুদ্ধের ইতিহাসকে নিজেদের খায়েশমতো ফ্রেইমিং করেছে। মুক্তিযুদ্ধে যেখানে অংশই নিয়েছে এদেশের আপামর মুসলিম জনতা, সেখানে মুসলিমদেরকেই বানিয়েছে মুক্তিযুদ্ধের প্রতিপক্ষ। দাড়ি-টুপিকে বানিয়েছে রাজাকারের প্রতীক। কালচারাল এলিটদের এই তীব্র মেরুকরণের ফলাফল— আজকের বৈষম্য আর ফ্যাসিজম। তাই বিজয়ের দিনে স্মরণ করিয়ে দিতে চাই— জুলাই বিপ্লবে ছাত্র-জনতার প্রতীক ছিল মুসলিম ভাতৃত্ববোধ। তাদের হৃদয়ে ছিল শহিদি আকাঙ্ক্ষা। মজলুম, শহিদ, আল্লাহর সাহায্য— এসব পরিভাষাই সেদিন আন্দোলনকে ট্রিগার করেছিল। মানুষকে চুম্বকের মতো টেনে এনেছিল রাজপথে। একাত্তরও এর ব্যতিক্রম কিছু ছিল না। বিজয়ের এই দিনটা উদযাপনের। একইভাবে ভবিষ্যত-কর্মপদ্ধতি নির্ধারণ করবার। আমরা এমন একটা বাংলাদেশ গড়তে চাই— যেখানে কোনো বৈষম্য থাকবে না। এমন একটা বাংলাদেশ, যেখানে কারো ধর্মীয় মূল্যবোধকে দমন করতে, কোনো 'জ*ঙ্গী' নাটক সাজানো হবে না। এমন এক বাংলাদেশ, যেখানে রাজনৈতিক সুবিধা হাসিলের উদ্দেশ্যে সংখ্যালঘুদের ওপর হাম*লার ছক আঁকা হবে না। যেখানে নিশ্চিত হবে সকল বিশ্বাসের স্বাধীনতা, বাকস্বাধীনতা ও গণমাধ্যমের স্বাধীনতা। আগামীর বাংলাদেশ হবে জনতার বাংলাদেশ।
