Zero deaths. That is the mission. A dedicated team of forest officers, patrolling staff, loco pilots, drone operators and control centre monitors works round the clock at Tamil Nadu’s AI-powered Elephant Control and Command Centre in Madukkarai in Coimbatore to keep elephants safe. In just over two and a half years, the system has facilitated around 9,481 safe elephant crossings ensuring Zero elephant deaths on Railway Tracks, demonstrating how technology, human vigilance and teamwork can come together to protect wildlife. The system has generated more than 7,116 real-time alerts for railway authorities and loco pilots, leading to 3,821 instances where trains were slowed down or stopped to allow elephants to cross safely. Beyond elephants, the system has also detected deer, gaurs and leopards, creating a comprehensive AI-enabled wildlife monitoring network. The Government of Tamil Nadu continues to strengthen the system. AI-powered drones have been deployed for wider landscape surveillance, extending monitoring beyond fixed thermal cameras and providing real-time situational awareness of elephant movements. No system can ever be perfect, and the worry never really goes away. But we must keep learning, improving and doing better. A daycare employee at Capgemini's Bengaluru campus couldn't bear the abuse of the kids at the centre. She reported it to supervisor, but instead of taking action, they fired her. She then became a whistleblower and leaked videos that exposed the abuse. In the videos, toddlers were made to sit inside the drum of a front-loading washing machine, had water sprayed into their mouths using a toilet jet spray, were locked inside bathrooms, and were forced into narrow, water-filled pipes to frighten them. The videos triggered outrage, forcing authorities to act. Today, according to media reports, the police have arrested the whistleblower only for allegedly "leaking sensitive videos." Lol! What a system! A poor woman with a clear conscience stood up to the powerful and went public, not for personal gain or with any malicious intent, but solely to protect those children. And she's the one who gets arrested.

It’s unfair to generalise and hold an entire generation accountable like this. Heinous crimes are not a Gen Z invention. Every generation has produced saints and scoundrels. Previous generations had anonymity; Gen Z lives under relentless spotlight of CCTV and social media, where every act is recorded, and dissected in public. What has changed is visibility, not the human nature.

Within a year he was in Kargil and there was a war on. On this day, 26 years ago, Rifleman Sanjay Kumar volunteered to lead an attack on Point 4875 in the Mushkoh Valley. When they were pinned down by machine gun fire, Sanjay Kumar jumped out and charged. He took a couple of bullets, reached the bunker, killed all three inside, and then turned their machine gun on the rest of the bunkers and fleeing enemy troops. He was awarded a Param Vir Chakra, one of only seven living winners.

But Ravi Shastri was a Champion of Champions in 1985 in a tournament that featured the likes of Imran, Hadlee, Kapil and Viv Richards, getting there with a phenomenal work ethic and attitude. Ravi Shastri was the first Indian cricketer to openly give back as good as he got from those sledging him, Aussies, Poms, even the fearsome West Indian pacers. He averaged 40 plus away against Australia and the West Indies with a memorable century against Roberts, Holding and Marshall at St John's and an epic double hundred at Sydeney. Ravi was the hardest bargainer before he got on to a project, but once he committed, he worked like a complete professional, and again, there aren't too many you can say that about. And he'd actually buy you a drink after as well. Have a great year @RaviShastriOfc, there are few who've done as much with what they've been given

Watching @ShreyasIyer15 perform that acrobatic fielding to assist in taking the “team catch “ made me appreciate how fielding has evolved since my retirement. For a long time, I felt like the “father of fielding”, but watching these modern athletes with their timing and awareness on the boundary line, makes me feel like the “grandfather of fielding”! I spent 99% of my career fielding in the inner circle, and when I started working as a fielding coach, there was no focus on the modern day “hotspots” on the boundaries. It was only when I started working with @mipaltan and saw Kieron Pollard, and then Glenn Maxwell, performing these incredible “airborne saves” on the boundaries that we started focusing on not only taking catches off balls that were already beyond the rope, but even saving the ball from going for a sixer, and forcing the batters to run only 1 or 2. With impact players transforming the way that batters can continuously attack the bowling, even with the loss of 4-5 wickets, bowlers need to be backed up by their fielders, and Shreyas’ spectacular“catch and release” was a perfect example of that. But let’s face it; when your head coach is @RickyPonting, one of the greatest fielders in the game, it should not come as a great surprise to see such incredible feats in the field!
