במהלך המלחמה באיראן, פיקוד המרכז האמריקני (סנטקום) הציג לנשיא טראמפ כמה פעמים תוכנית לפעולה קרקעית שתביא להשתלטות מוחלטת על מצר הורמוז, באופן שלא יאפשר לאיראן לשבש את השיט בו. התוכנית כללה כיבוש של האיים הגדולים באזור המצר (קשם, הורמוז, לאראק וכמה איים קטנים נוספים), והשתלטות על חלקים משמעותיים ממחוז הורמוזגאן שלחוף המצר. לטראמפ נאמר כי משך הזמן הצפוי עד להשגת מטרות המבצע הוא בין שישה לתשעה חודשים. כמו כן, לפחות חלק מהגורמים העריכו כי בתום התקופה הזו המשטר האיראני יקרוס. אינני יודע מה מספר האבדות הצפוי שהוצג לנשיא - אני מעריך על דעת עצמי (לא הערכה מקצועית) שמבצע כזה היה גובה מהאמריקנים בין עשרות למאות בודדות של הרוגים. טראמפ שקל - ופעם אחר פעם החליט נגד. מעצמת-על שאינה מסוגלת לעמוד במחירי מלחמה מינוריים יחסית שכאלה כדי להשיג יעד אסטרטגי, אינה מעצמת-על. סין ורוסיה רואות - ומסיקות מסקנות.

This “Iran deal” cluterfuck is without question the biggest blunder of Trump’s second term. The situation is so bad that there is no way to spin it as positive, no matter how hard Trump and Vance try. The condemnation of the deal is intense on both the left and the right and there seems to be little support for the “deal” outside of the woke right “Israel controls the world” group. Vance telling Americans, multiple times, how Iran has agreed to things, only for Iran to directly contradict him an hour later are brutal optics that cannot spun any way other than we look like idiots and are getting manhandled. Almost every statement Vance has said has been directly refuted by Iran. He must be 0-30 on lies. It’s bad.

The final result for Israel’s air force after its approximately 15,000 strikes on Iran over the last year? Zero losses to its manned aircraft or to its pilots. A miracle.

The license for the Iranian regime to sell oil doesn’t seem to fit with POTUS's promise that the proceeds of any relief will go to the USA via agriculture purchases. Allowing money from China (which will be the primary crude purchaser) to go straight to designated terrorists the IRGC (which controls vast swaths of Iranian oil industry) would increase the risk that Iran will rebuild its military capabilities, fund terrorism and cement its hegemony of Hormuz. We must not allow our very real gains to be reversed by rehabilitating this irredeemable regime.

Finally, Israel is standing up to the U.S. and demonstrating the resolve needed to block the American fire sale to Iran - which is being conducted at our expense. Israel's Ambassador to the U.S., Dr. Yechiel Leiter, made statements at the opening of the negotiation round with Lebanon the likes of which I cannot recall from a senior Israeli diplomat: ​"We are facing a train wreck... We boarded the same train, we all rode in the same carriage toward the same destination, with the U.S. serving as the leading locomotive... Today, this train is at risk of derailing. The underlying premise was that Iran is out (of Lebanon)... Is the disarmament of Hezbollah still the basis for these discussions? Is Hezbollah still committed to withdrawing (north of the Litani)? We cannot afford commitments that evaporate." ​On the surface, these words are not directed straight at the administration, but anyone reading them understands exactly who they are aimed at. Coming from Leiter, who is known for his restrained style and for being completely aligned with PM Netanyahu, they carry double the weight.

In the Middle East, Israel is like the customer service desk for everyone's failures. Bad weather, bad politics, and now even Iran and Trump blame Israel to cover for JD Vance's bad deal. You failed Israel, your own closest friend, and now you want the rest of us to trust you? What are you going to say: “Trust me, bro”?

Iran can now sell oil. China buys more of Iran’s oil than any country. Upwards of 90%. They will be thrilled.  What are the safeguards to prevent the Iranian regime from using the money to rebuild its war machine?  I see none.  Does that concern anybody?  And please don’t blame Israel.  We’re doing this with our Qatari and Pakistani friends.

The whole Middle East watched JD Vance act like a lion with Israel and a Persian cat with the mullahs in Tehran. Strange how some people save their toughest words for their friends and their softest voice for their enemies. You made a deal with the devil, yet you preach heaven.

Reading Trump's post confirms one thing: he still doesn't understand the Middle East. In this region, destroying some military hardware while leaving the regime, its ideology, its missile program, its proxies, and its terrorist networks intact is like announcing victory over ISIS because you blew up a few pickup trucks. The Islamic regime terrorized the region long before it needed a serious navy or air force. It hit the UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Israel, and others with drones, missiles, militias, and proxies. Hezbollah still exists. The networks still exist. The ideology still exists. The regime still exists. Then you call it a win and potentially hand the same regime hundreds of billions of dollars? That's not "peace through strength." That's paying the arsonist after he burned down the neighbourhood. Your friends expected leadership. Your enemies expected pressure. Instead, your friends got disappointment, and your enemies got a deal better than they could have dreamed of. And please stop selling Iran's economic misery as a newly created success story. Iran's economy has been a wreck for decades, and ordinary Iranians have suffered for 47 years. You didn't create that reality you just tried to package it as an achievement.

Trump was told by ONLY ONE country at the G7 that this was the WORST DEAL EVER and not to sign the TRAP. Watching JD Vance's interviews in the Middle East felt like accidentally tuning into Iranian state TV. People kept checking the screen to make sure it still said "Vice President of the United States" and not "Spokesman for Tehran."
