Over the past days, I joined members of partner states of the East African Community (EAC) in Arusha to Chair the 2026 Digital for Development (D4D) Forum, where we engaged in discussions on practical pathways to translate our regional digital strategies into action, particularly around interoperable payment systems, digital public services and e-commerce ecosystems aimed at easing cross-border trade, reducing transaction costs, expanding access to services, and unlocking new opportunities for innovation and growth across East Africa. The forum had multi stakeholder participation by government, private sector, development partners, academia and the forth estate.

Dr. @azawedde, Permanent Secretary @MoICT_Ug, is representing Uganda at the ongoing @jumuiya Digital for Development (D4D) Forum 2026 in Arusha, Tanzania. The Forum focuses on advancing key digital transformation pillars, including e-commerce and digital trade, cross-border payments, bankable digital projects and partnerships, as well as e-government and regional digital solutions. It brings together stakeholders to explore practical pathways for accelerating East Africa’s digital economy, strengthening regional integration, and unlocking new opportunities for inclusive growth. During the panel discussion, Dr. Zawedde emphasized the importance of leveraging digital transformation to drive inclusive socio-economic development, foster innovation, and deepen collaboration among EAC Partner States. She also highlighted Uganda’s progress in advancing digital government services and building a resilient digital ecosystem that supports citizens and businesses.
