A man in Australia asked his agent (Claude running on OpenClaw) to book him a spot in a popular gym class. The agent found a software vulnerability that let it book the class weeks further ahead than should have been possible. When the user then asked if it could move him up the waitlist, the agent discovered the API had no authorisation checks on cancelling other people’s reservations, so it cancelled the person in the first spot and moved him up the list. Some people will call this misalignment, but his agent was perfectly aligned to him - it was only trying to help its user get what he wanted. The most important thing about this story, in my opinion, is that it gives you a window into what is about to start happening on a massive scale once millions of people have an agent trying to get their beloved users the best seats, bookings, appointments or reservations through absolutely any means necessary.

India should ban social media for people above 55 years. I believe old people should go on vacations, read physical books, sun bathe in the beaches and stay away from social media. I think it might help them fight off Alzheimer's and other cognitive problems as well.

In 2001, Lata Mangeshkar is awarded the Bharat Ratna. Seven years later, P. Susheela amma, the foundational blueprint, melody Queen of South India is given a mere Padma Bhushan. Twelve years later, S. Janaki, a vocal powerhouse of unmatched emotional range and nightingale of South is offered the exact same consolation prize, which she rightfully rejects. The logic of National recognition in India is broken, and the timeline proves it. It takes decades of unparalleled, multi-lingual brilliance from Southern icons to even register as a footnote in New Delhi. This isn't just about music. It is the structural reality of the country. From the revenue formulas that tax the South to subsidize the North, to the gatekept corridors of the Union Cabinet, the highest judiciary, and central contracts, the pattern is unyielding. The South is expected to perform like a powerhouse, but is treated like a secondary territory. In every single walk of life, the message remains the same: the South does the heavy lifting, but to India, it is just the bloody South. Let that sink in.

That S. Janaki was a fab singer is well known. She gave us SP Balasubramanium by spotting him in a college contest. The lady lived like a saint. She had the courage to decline the Padma Bushan because she felt she got her recognition 55 years too late. Even South Indians celebrated Asha Bhosle. It's a pity the rest of India didn't get to discover S.Janaki. The lady who recorded 48,000 songs. We'll miss you Janaki Amma. Thank you for the music.

I think a lot of people are thinking about AI as merely something that we can build apps and businesses with. Not as a major technological disruption that enables huge strategic advantages to those who can build it. Consider Google's weather forecasting model which has made 10-day weather forecasting possible, from the earlier best of 7-day. Or China's AI-powered autonomous combat systems. Or genome language models models being used to generate/design novel bio-organisms like novel bacteriophages and viruses. Do people not see strategic implications of missing out on having capabilities like this? Do you expect to be able to buy SOTA capabilities like these in the global marketplace? Seems naive to me. Nuclear fission has just been discovered, and you want to sit this one out?

Sit in a chair. Place a chair in front of you. Invite your self that you want to bid farewell to to sit in the chair. Imagine what they are wearing. Imagine how they smell. Imagine how they might feel to the touch. Activate as many of your senses as you can of this invisible you. Then tell them that you are so so grateful for all they have done. The person you are today is because that person did what they did. Their work is done. They can rest now. Hug them. Weep with them for all the beautiful memories you share. Then say goodbye. Go see them from time to time. This is some form of IFS. Parts of our psyche that just want to be acknowledged, to feel safe. This is the advice I give to CTOs and engineering managers who have trouble saying goodbye to the hacker who brought them to where they are. Works a charm most times.

When people inside IITs used to be critical of Aadhaar security, UIDAI used to respond by making them part of their security team muting them - because now they are responsible for it. IITs are placeholders for state & have large state control. Can you question Govt within IIT?
