SpaceX raised only $12B of capital before going public. With that $12B, they revolutionized the rocket industry, built a global satellite network, and created arguably the most innovative company of all time. The federal government spends $12B every 15 hours and still can’t get its shit together. Prior to SpaceX, NASA was sending astronauts into space on Soviet-era Russian Soyuz capsules. So no, I don’t find Elon’s wealth to be a problem, and I wouldn’t trust Elizabeth Warren or Bernie Sanders to allocate a single dollar of it.
The "Why" in "Why is Meta destroying its engineering organization?" is neither an interrogative adverb nor a relative adverb. It is inevitable. The original culture was set by the pioneers who love chaos, who want to discover, and hence hack. Settlers hate chaos, they want order and hence count the beans. As the settlers slowly eroded the original values at Meta, many of the original culture bearing pioneers left for new frontier (pun intended) companies like Anthropic and OpenAI, which sped up the flywheel of decay. In Infra this was very apparent where the all of the dev-centered leadership was replaced by leaders from production engineering. While many of these folks are Meta lifers, their job was always to reign in chaos, and not to break things. Also, for the longest time Meta had built-in back pressure against culture dilution by putting everyone through bootcamp, effectively brainwashing new hires to embrace the hacker way. But then after Covid and claiming that AI is a more efficient onboarding tool, the same bean counters behind the current applied AI org, cancelled bootcamp. This was also BTW when the corporate headquarter's address was changed from "1 Hacker Way" to "1 Meta Way". At that point, it was just a matter of time before the original engineering culture would collapse, which is what we are all witnessing unfolding in real-time now. And Meta and Sun Microsystems have become literally a different side of the same sign.

Not exactly. SpaceX requires that there be no annoying “portal” to use Starlink. Starlink WiFi must just work effortlessly every time, as though you were at home. Delta wanted to make it painful, difficult and expensive for their customers. Hard to see how that is a winning strategy.
