Maybe I’m wrong, but I think there is an over 20% chance Starmer’s premiership would not be in the current doom spiral with public opinion (and then politically) absent winter fuel.

Whatever happens next it should be a cautionary tale about confusing ‘being tough with being strong’ as @marcusaroberts often says, but also reaching for off the shelf technocratic policy solutions without thinking about how to land them and how to shape them.

Essex County Council is broken. We have huge issues with funding social care, potholes, huge capital projects, the worst SEN provision in the UK and more. What is Reform's priority? Remove the flag of our ally. These people are nothing more than plastic patriots.

Also: gifts aren’t taxable. So £5m tax-free personal “gift” to Farage will be the the biggest single sum accepted by any UK politician in democratic history. Reform is lobbying for crypto tax cuts, forcing BoE to hold crypto etc. A scandal hiding in plain sight.

As a new Member of Parliament, Nigel Farage was obliged to report to the House of Commons all political donations and gifts he had received during the previous 12 months. He did not. The Conservatives are therefore today referring Nigel Farage to the Parliamentary Standards Commissioner.

@AsplinKevin Reporters - myself included - have been on this trail ever since Farage rustled up £215k to personally “invest” in Kwasi Kwarteng’s company. Where does a politician find cash like that? The Guardian and other papers have been on the trail for some time. It found the answer.

I know there is a lot of news around but can someone at the Beeb explain to me how a man they keep telling us might be the next PM getting an undisclosed donation of FIVE MILLION POUNDS from a Thai based crypto dealer (with a BS explanation about it being for lifelong security) is not even a news story when the man he wants to replace led the news for days over some glasses and Arsenal tickets?

There is much that is troubling in Mrs Justice Lieven's judgment in favour of the University of Sussex, but this stands out. The judge suggests that if someone objects to a 'gender critical feminist lecture' it might be reasonable for the university to demand that the lecture should be read in advance by 'the university'. So lecturers who believe that sex is real should have their lectures vetted by administrators if someone complains in advance of the lecture. This type of incentive is exactly what activists thrive on. And it suggests a regime which strips academics of all autonomy and acadmic freedom. judiciary.uk/judgments/the-…

My choir - which specialises in singing at charity running events - has been dropped from Sunday's London Marathon. Because I don't believe people can change sex - and said so publicly. We were dropped by the disability charity Scope - who we've supported for the past two years - on the basis of two anonymous complaints. About MY gender critical beliefs. So not only am I being discriminated against due to my lawfully held views - so are other people. After months of preparation ... disappointed is not the word. Suffice to say, if there are any organisations out there who are happy to welcome volunteers with lawfully held beliefs on sex and gender, we'd love to be your 'cheer squad' at Sunday's London Marathon. Our running themed 'set list' is always a hit with runners and we bring fun, enthusiasm and props in spades (hence the 'Eye Of The Tiger' mask). We'd love to help support runners raise money for good causes at this year's London Marathon - as we have done in previous years. Since the Brexit referendum 10 years ago, we’ve had six Prime Ministers (including Cameron). The sixth, Starmer, is wobbling. So far this week there has been extreme outrage because Kier Starmer, the UK Prime Minister: 1) Went on a 3 day minibreak to Spain and stayed in a £200 a night 4 star hotel 2) Spent £1500 on a sofa, and £1400 on a bed at his Downing Street residence (all Prime Ministers have, and have always used, a £30,000 annual allowance for this same residence). Does anyone else see how pathetic and desperate this all is? In a world where so many world leaders are openly corrupt to the tune of multi-billion dollars, that these people are digging so hard and so deep to fabricate a scandal where none exists? Outrage bait BS, and we all know it.
