@AuerDirk The issue is not how much market share each individual cloud provider has. It's that all of them (the big ones, at least) are American and that it's a geopolitical concentration risk to be that dependent on only US suppliers.

@AuerDirk All good points, but I think a crucial one is missing: The underlying rationale is that Europe can't be that dependent on only US cloud providers - even if the market is competitive It's something that's difficult to spell out in law and yet a geopolitical truth.

It's ridiculous to claim Sicilians or Cypriot can afford AC while Swiss or Germans can't. Pretty much every European country can afford AC. It just wasn't a thing in most places. It will become one, though, over the next two decades.

BTW, this map is probably the best rebuttal to the silly claim that Europeans don't have AC because it's supposedly too expensive. The countries that have loads of AC are among those with the lowest income in the EU. It's simply about climate, temperatures, and history.

I tried to map AC penetration in Europe by region/province where possible, with the latest available data. One can obviously notice that there is a correlation between proximity to Mediterranean/ distance from Atlantic/North Sea A quick late night map so data quality varies...

If my IT sector produces double the output with the same input but I use all those extra resources to hire more healthcare admin workers (making the healthcare sector *less* productive) the average doesn't change much.

@CrisisStudent @NewLeftEViews Mobile phone plans and mobile internet is another example. Americans pay up to €55 for an average plan (not with generous data, or about 1.5 working hours. Austrians pay €15 for a same or better plan, 0.5 working hours. That's some serious price gouging in America.
