never has a film been so praised, & so derided; for that reason alone, "The Odyssey" is a cultural phenomenon & worth seeing. not to be simplistic but it is an "epic" of sorts meaning episodic, some episodes much more inspired than others. everyone seems to love/hate parts of it & all have impassioned reasons. basically, the film seems to have stirred delusions of possession: who "owns" an ancient Greek epic poem? who has the right to make a movie of it? cast his own actors? etc. over all quite wonderful that in 2026 so much more akin to the final tottering days of the Roman Empire than to the Bronze Age, so many should care so much about a classic text.

@selfmadewannabe @shadcn It sets a higher standard for the mean and makes it easier for people to achieve the mean. e.g. people can build decently designed web apps with a few clicks now. But I don't believe that we'll be stuck w/ the mean. New ideas / taste have always been rare, and will survive.

@JoyceCarolOates I agree with you Ms. Oates. Loving is indeed a courageous act. One nuance for your consideration: Buddha taught *attachment to* desires is the cause of suffering. When we consider the impermanence of all phenomenon, love and compassion springs up from the soul all the more.

@alex_l_farber @JoyceCarolOates Partially agree! But it's an observation of feelings as impermanent (not a critique / condemnation). Even transcendence is a temporary human experience. We are bound within an ever-changing reality. Buddha simply reminds us not to cling when it's time to let go.

Unpopular opinion: I don’t care if most web apps look the same. All I care about is whether it does what it says and does it fast. Make it fast. Make the UX obvious. Put the right things in the right place and little to no animations.
