I can’t stress enough how little an idea matters compared to the agency of the people executing the idea. I have had the privilege of knowing and sometimes even working with some of the most successful people (by various metrics). The difference between mediocre and excellent

no. we’ve been given a rare opportunity to modernize human learning and understanding, instead we’re taking shortcuts to offshore. this is also made worse by the fact that current academic institution has exhausted people. we should worry about learning.

Is software development the only “engineering” profession that advocates for not understanding the medium they build with? Would we accept a civil eng saying they didn’t need to know the properties of concrete? Or a mech eng who said they didn’t need to know how engines work?

Because the search space of solving unified theory of biology is computationally impossible with the today’s tech, especially when you ask questions like “Can I predict a cell’s fate?”. What we would see in the next 5-10 years is routine prediction of multi-subunit protein..

At the beginning of Grad school, I took an elective on "Leadership for Innovation." My entire purpose in taking this was to understand where "innovation" comes from. Could it be taught? My professor's response and this tweet are similar. It can actually be taught (I guess).

@levelsio I guess this is why I’m leaning towards @37signals Campfire. Firstly it’s not monthly payment, you pay once get source code, host your stuff. It’s weird to be a data generator when as a side effect when you’re paying for a service.
