Patriot Front came out of their moms’ basements, dusted off the Old Navy khakis, put on the white masks so they don’t get fired from their day jobs, and headed to Washington for America’s 250th birthday celebration. Four hundred self-described patriots, not one ounce of bravery.

Today marks 250 years since the United States declared independence, so I put together this breakdown of one of France's biggest gestures of friendship: the Statue of Liberty, and the part of her story most people never hear. In 1885, France's gift arrived in New York Harbor in 214 wooden crates, and nobody could put it together. Not because the pieces did not fit. Because the American side of the deal was not finished. France had agreed to pay for the statue and its voyage across the Atlantic. America had agreed to build the pedestal. When the crates were unloaded, that pedestal was still an incomplete stone platform, and construction had recently stalled for five months for lack of funds. So the statue sat there. In pieces. On an island. For nearly a year. The fix came from an unlikely place. Newspaper publisher Joseph Pulitzer launched a public campaign shaming wealthy donors for not stepping up, and ordinary Americans answered instead. Within five months, 120,000 people had donated $102,000, roughly $3.7 million in today's dollars, and 80 percent of that came in sums of less than one dollar. The pedestal was finished in April 1886. Reassembly began immediately, and the statue you can still visit on Liberty Island today was fully standing by that October, dedicated just sixteen months after the first crate hit the dock. France built her. America found the money to give her somewhere to stand. 250 years of independence. 141 of them with Lady Liberty watching over the harbor.

They’ll plan a perfect date, get excited, mentally live it 12 times… then arrive late because they got stuck in a “quick reset” that turned into a life crisis shower. 4. Emotional consistency? No. Emotional intensity? Absolutely. You might get a love confession, a breakdown, and a joke about dying alone, all in one evening. 5. They remember the exact tone you used when you said “I’m fine” three months ago… but can’t remember if they already replied to your message while actively typing a reply. 6. “Just one quick task” is a lie they believe every time, right before disappearing into a rabbit hole of cleaning, overthinking, or staring at the wall with a snack. 7. They love you loudly, messily, and sincerely… but sometimes the delivery system is on airplane

Neurodivergents will say “I need rest” but what they actually mean is “I need uninterrupted time where no one expects anything from me”.

Millennials watched their parents lose everything in 2008. Then got handed $100K in student debt. Then got called entitled for wanting a living wage. Then survived a pandemic in our prime years. Then got priced out of every neighborhood we grew up in. And y’all really wonder why we’re not okay? We’ve been in survival mode for 20 years straight and nobody even noticed.

People with ADHD have what’s called an “interest-based nervous system.” They literally can’t force themselves to care about things that bore them. It’s not a choice. It’s not willpower. Their brains physically won’t produce the neurochemicals needed to engage unless something triggers interest, urgency, novelty, or challenge.

my therapist told me, "stop assuming people are mad at you. Stop attempting to read people's minds. stop trying to manage the thoughts and emotions of others. let people be in charge of themselves. if they have something to say to you they will and if they don't it is their responsibility not yours. overthinking kills happiness" and that hit me like a brick.
