Eph. 2:1 Man is spiritually dead like Lazurus was physically dead, unable to act first. Jesus called to Lazurus to come out, but it was up to Lazurus to respond and come out into the light. Likewise Jesus had to act first and call all the spiritual dead into the light by drawing all people to himself on the cross (John 12:32) Eph 1:4-5 Again, He must act first. We're often given a picture of Christ and the Church of a Bride and Bridegroom, yes the Groom chooses, but the bride needs also say yes. John 6:44 Yes, and in John 12:32 we learn Jesus draws all when He was lifted up on the cross and we know from Romans 1 all are without excuse. Rom 9:18 Yes, but this is an argument from Paul about why the gentiles, who were are God's chosen, Israel, should be included. Paul concludes in v33 that what was being done is laying a stumbling block, a rock of offense. God showing mercy on more than just those you want to be elect is a stubling block. It was for the Jews, it is for Calvanist who take offense that any rando could just use their free will to agree with the Holy Spirit that Jesus is Lord and be saved. Rom 8:29-30 Yep, He makes extra preparations for those He knows will exersize their free-will to accept Him in advance, to such an extent it leads some to wrongly conclude that "they had no other choice" or said another way His grace was irresistible.
