Because bonds were absurdly overvalued with real rates deeply in negative territory, a false equilibrium which has now substantially corrected. We may or may not be in a fundamentally different inflation regime but I don’t find the case built on a simple extrapolation from a short and highly anomalous period convincing.

The 'actual' pre GFC was clearly inflated by unsustainable growth in the financial services sector. The true underlying trend has been miserable for a lot longer. Anyway I am looking forward to hearing about an innovative growth strategy that is incentiveless and doesn't require lower energy costs.

@michaelxpettis True but as the Russian’s discovered they couldn’t access their Dollar and Euro reserves when they needed to so maybe the calculus is strategic?
