In the late 1980s, driven by a vision of national self-sufficiency, President Daniel arap Moi tasked the University of Nairobi with creating Kenya's own car. The result was the Nyayo Pioneer. While the project ultimately faltered, the ambition behind it left a lasting mark. Beyond the well known stories of the cars failures, there are stories of the dedication of the Kenyan engineers who worked on the project.
