Just got off the phone with my college roommate. His daughter was diagnosed with leukemia in January. He has insurance. Good insurance. The kind you feel safe having. 7 months later: Savings: wiped out. 401k: cashed early. Penalties and all. House: refinanced to cover the gaps insurance decided weren’t their problem. He told me he’s not the same person anymore. Said watching your child fight for her life while simultaneously fighting an insurance company over coverage codes does something to you that doesn’t go away. They did everything right. Two incomes. No debt. Responsible their whole lives. One diagnosis undid all of it in 7 months. And somewhere a health insurance CEO is getting a $30 million bonus this quarter. I don’t know how people defend this system with a straight face. I really don’t.

Not a single move that has been made makes me feel the West teams have gained significant ground on the Spurs. Out of them all, the Mavs and Jazz have improved the most (I'm including the JJJ trade in this). The Spurs addressed 2 of their 3 biggest weaknesses. No longer will we see Olynyk/Plumlee/Biyombo as the 3rd center. And while Tobi has left a sour taste in the past, he's not going to be asked to be even a top-5 scorer on this team.

I don't think saying "heavily" injured is being honest. They were down 2 guys. JDub (played 1 full game) and Ajay (played 2 full games). Everybody else was available. And that also discredits Fox missing games 1 and 2, then battling through an injured ankle and Harper getting hurt in game 2 and playing limited minutes the next 2 games. I give you the choke part, though. While I might be more ho-hum about hiw that series played out than most, I can't sit here and say they didn't choke.

There isn't a team in the league who wouldn't benefit from adding LeBron. Especially the Spurs. I also get the point that he might just get in the way of what the team has brewing. The goal is to win a title, though, and nobody would improve their chances more than LeBron.

Read the Spurs part, which is a totally fair reasoning for the grade. I just come back to the thought process being "We had 3 roster spots taken up by Olynyk, Plumlee, and Biyombo, so while the rest of the roster is where we want it, maybe we improve in those spots." The only other thing I could see them trying to do is find a lights out shooter to use in limited situations throughout the year, but I don't think any were on the board at 42 and 44.

I understand why fans might feel this way. But... The Spurs have these players under contract: Fox Castle Harper Vassell Keldon Champagnie Carter Wemby Kornet They got in more trouble not having a decent 3rd center than anything else in the playoffs. So taking 2 swings on figuring that out was a necessary risk. Not to mention you have to take into account who was on the board.

Yes. Nobody is playing barefoot. But measuring everybody barefoot makes sure everybody is measured the same. Different shoes, soles, and insoles can be used to game the system otherwise.

I threw in Reed here because I was figuring he might be a 2nd rounder, but who knows what the Spurs plan to do with those. Absolutely loved the thought of him though. He's ready to roll right now. So that's a home run move.

There's pretty much nothing the Spurs could do tonight that would surprise me. Literally all options have valid reasonings you can make for them. All I personally hope they do is draft a big-ish player. Morez. Yaxel. Hannes. Cenac. Veesaar. Quaintance. Even Tarris Reed is fine.
