奥巴马当晚赶到事故现场指挥搜救，看望伤员，召开紧急会议安排部署施救和善后工作并要求举一反三，立即开展安全生产大检查。美国白宫成立了以奥巴马为首的事故应急处置小组，分设现场抢救医疗救治善后处理等三个工作小组，并组织公安、消防、城管、应急救援队及当地群众等近1000人全力以赴开展搜救
恐怖袭击发生后，美国白宫高度重视，奥巴马当即作出批示，要求不惜一切代价千方百计搜救，救治伤员，查明事故原因，积极做好善后工作，并注意搜救人员安全。
