Genuinely can't believe this. Our @finnair flight for Heathrow landed at Stansted 4 hours ago. We've been sitting on the tarmac, in the UK, the whole time. And we're now being flown back to Helsinki. We're told it's an "immigration issue." Diverted flights get processed at Stansted every week. What's really going on? @STN_Airport @SimonCalder @NATS

@finnair @STN_Airport Finnair AY1335 HEL-LHR diverted to Stansted after today's @NATS failure. 2+ hrs on the tarmac, now told we can't deplane and may be flown back to Helsinki. We're already in the UK. What is stopping Border Force processing this flight? Please help.

Everyone says starting a startup is hard. I hear a lot less about why. I thought I knew. I was an early employee at Justworks and stayed long enough to see it get big. From that seat, startups looked like a lot of hard work and picking up whatever random thing needed doing — and I figured founding was just more of that. A couple years into co-founding Uprise, I don't think it is. It's a fundamentally different thing. Here are the two reasons that I wish I'd heard going in. First, the problems that reach you are the worst ones. Anything solvable gets solved before it hits your desk. This is apparently how Elon operates — find the biggest blocker, deal with it, move to the next. That's the whole day, every day. At Justworks I worked on hard problems, but there was always someone behind me who'd catch it if I failed. I never noticed that safety net — when it works, you never see it being used. As a founder, I'm the net. The problem stops with me or it doesn't get solved. Second, Bill Gurley has this line that the founder's energy has to run opposite the company's. When the team is overconfident, you have to bring them back down to earth. When things aren't going well, you have to be the voice pushing forward. And running opposite to whatever room you're in, all the time, is exhausting. Both of these seem to get more extreme the closer you are to CEO. Whatever I'm experiencing as a co-founder, I suspect our CEO is experiencing at some multiple. Knowing all this probably wouldn't have changed my mind about starting a company — I needed to touch the fire myself. It probably won't change your mind either if you're set on it. I just wish someone had told me, so I'd have recognized it sooner.

6/ One more thing: don't quit your day job. You can make real progress in a few hours a week while still employed. Two caveats: check your employment agreement for IP and moonlighting clauses, and don't build anything that competes at all with your employer. Not worth it.
