The sad thing about tonight's speech is that this looks like the end of the beautiful Trump-Xi friendship.
The documents Trump is referring to right now, and CNN has reviewed all of them, largely discuss vulnerabilities that have been known for years and/or are reflected in the 2021 US intel community assessment. The two dominant stories this afternoon are the vice president suggesting shadowy Israeli “influence campaigns” in the U.S., and the 103 House Democrats who voted today to cut military aid to Israel. The degree to which both parties focus their ire on Israel — to the exclusion of so many other critical and more pertinent issues — is beyond concerning, and signals a real crisis moment for both American Jews and Israelis.
When a “journalist” expresses open support for a terrorist organization’s attack on a democratic partner — and demands it from US officials — the debate has gone off the rails. There is plenty of room for legitimate criticism of Israel’s actions in Gaza. Demanding support for Hamas terrorism is not in this universe.
