There’s a long history in the US of abusing scripture to advance the causes of bigotry & discrimination. Slaveholders did it. Segregationists did it. White supremacists do it. And it continues. Yet if Christ repeated himself today, they’d likely denounce him as a radical, too.

@HistoryELAClass @teacher2teacher I say yes, and put restrictions on volume & how long they can take picking a song. Think "No noise complaints" and "Pick a good song, not the perfect song."

@alicekeeler I use a table with a column for dates & another for the intermediate deadline. You could add a 3rd to check off (or sign off) as completed. Guessing they don't want/need paragraphs as that wouldn't suit. Have kids pick dates and/or "assignments" for themself.

My goal each day in the classroom is to be as gracious and anti-antagonistic as possible. Kids have enough issues as it is — no need in their teacher being one, too.

@mssackstein That my IQ jumped by a standard deviation at 10 yrs old when the test format was changed. There are too many factors that affect scores for any 1 to be the be-all & end-all defined of kids. And thanks to the teacher who insisted they were getting it wrong about me.
