As the CCP’s military links to Iran’s theocratic regime are revealed, further evidence emerges of CCP infiltration of UK universities. Two stories reported today. The deadly quartet of Iran, North Korea, the CCP’s China and Putin’s Russia, have forged a lethal alliance threatening the world’s free societies. Yet, we seem oblivious to the accelerating dangers and can end up aiding and abetting those who threaten us. Warnings have repeatedly been issued by our intelligence agencies about universities collaborating with hostile states. A briefing was given to university vice chancellors and to some members of @UKParliament Back in 2021 Lord Johnson of Marylebone @JoJohnsonUK , working with The Policy Institute at King's College London, highlighted the significant risks in university partnerships with the CCP: “The UK’s dependence on a neo-totalitarian technology power for the financial health and research output of its universities is now regarded as a particular point of vulnerability.” But have those warnings been acted upon? Worse still, academics who call out the CCP regime are themselves sanctioned or sidelined: @MShipworth @LauraTMurphy Where university research can be used for military purposes that raises a stack of specific national security questions which must be answered @RtHonKevanJones For starters, why is London’s Queen Mary university reportedly working with a Chinese institution developing secret underwater military capabilities for China? This is a respected institution with over 90% of its research rated as world-leading or internationally excellent and which has been selected for a UK government defence partnership. It needs to urgently respond to today’s reports. As for the CCP - that needs little explanation. This is a regime accused by @HouseofCommons of genocide against its Uyghur Muslims and of destroying democracy in Hong Kong. Its daily military threats to the 23 million island people of Taiwan graphically explains the CCPs preoccupation with maritime technology. The CCP has one eye fixed permanently on the Taiwan Strait - the 180-kilometer-wide strait separating the island of Taiwan and the Asian continent. It also has expansionist ambitions in the Pacific and the South China Sea.
