Let me tell you the mystery of motherhood in one story. There is a very steep hill we have to climb up to get to my house followed by a hundred or so uneven stone steps. On a hot summer’s day, climbing up in the afternoon is quite uncomfortable. I had my older toddler on my hip. She had fallen asleep in the car and I didn’t want her wandering up drowsy. But carrying her up was quite arduous. Suddenly, she woke up as I carried her and saw me labouring for breath as I walked and said “are you tired Mumma? Let me carry you” and then she hugged me very tight. Her action of course did nothing to help carry the weight. But the gesture and what she said was borne of such an innocent and pure love that my whole body was filled with an unknown strength and I bounded up the rest of the hill without another moment of struggle. This is the mystery of the pure love that motherhood teaches you…if you are open to it.

@alyssaleann I really love @Medium as a blogging platform! The publications are great and the community is solid. It’s $5/month to post paywalled content but it’s not that hard to make that back. You can post for free if you want, you just can’t monetize it.
