Example iOS study plan for a 4-hour week: 1 hour learning a concept 2 hours building a small feature with it 1 hour debugging and recording what you learned Adjust the hours, but protect the practice time.
Your iOS learning timeline depends on four things: • coding experience • weekly study time • target skill level • learning method Define the destination first. “Build and publish a small app” is much easier to plan than “learn iOS.”
App idea prompt: What small problem have you solved manually at least three times this month? Note when it happens, your current workaround, and the smallest result an app could provide. Repetition is evidence worth exploring.
Three places to find an app idea: 1. Remix an existing idea for a specific audience. 2. Solve a problem you repeatedly face. 3. Study recurring complaints in app reviews. Write the problem in one sentence before listing features.
A simple SwiftData mental model: Model: describes the data ModelContainer: manages schema and storage configuration ModelContext: fetches, inserts, deletes, and saves changes Trace one item through create → fetch → update → delete.
Before your app depends on an API, send three test requests: 1. valid 2. invalid 3. missing authentication Compare the responses with the docs. Learn the failure behavior before your users do, and keep test credentials private.
Before your first API integration, learn four terms: API: how systems communicate Endpoint: where a request goes API key: who is calling SDK: helper code for the service Then read the docs for input, response, errors, and authentication. Keep secret keys private.
Five design checks for your next app screen: • readable type and layout • color with clear contrast • a simple user flow • consistent visual patterns • accessible controls and content Review one real task from start to finish.
Before choosing your app's tools, write one sentence: “This app helps [specific person] do [specific job] when [specific situation].” That sentence can remove more unnecessary features than another hour comparing frameworks.
Before building your first iOS app, check six things: a clear idea, a specific user, the required tools, a support community, reliable learning resources, and time to practice. You need enough clarity to start, not a perfect plan.
Learn SwiftUI state and navigation with one tiny two-screen app. Build two screens, pass one value forward, change it, and observe what updates. Data flow explains why the UI changes. Navigation explains how the screens connect.

A word of warning, if you wanna check out Xcode 27 beta, it's gonna force you to also upgrade to macOS Golden Gate beta. And the problem with this is that Xcode 26, the current stable version of Xcode, is not compatible with the Golden Gate beta. So in order to move backwards, it looks like you're going to have to do a clean install. That means erasing everything and reinstalling Tahoe. The reason why you might want Xcode 26 still is because it's the only way to submit apps into the App Store. You cannot use Xcode 27 beta to submit apps until it is officially released in September. So if you only have one computer, do not install the betas on there unless you wanna be stuck and unable to submit apps
