Footage from the documentary, "Directed by Andrei Tarkovsky" (1988), revealing how the entire take of the 'burning house' sequence was ruined due to the jamming of the camera, while filming 'The Sacrifice' (1987). You could almost feel Tarkovsky's pain when it went wrong.
This sequence in Andrei Tarkovsky's "The Sacrifice" (1986) was shot twice. In the first take, when the house started to burn, the film in the camera jammed & couldn't be reloaded in time. For the retake, the house was reconstructed within 2 weeks & it was set on fire again.
