About 20% of the population is "Baby Boom" gen. About 21% are millennials but only about half have children. So they are roughly comparing 20% of the population to a 10% sized group - and surprisingly, the ratio comes out to 28%:16% or about the same. About 85% of all detached single family homes are 3 or more bedrooms -there are not many smaller homes. This reporting seems misleading.

@kristenmag I have 2 family members who are celiac and one does want to ban wheat... everything is a mess. I don't want to ban almonds but on the other hand, my grocer has 18 kinds of granola cereal and every one of them has almonds now.

15% of the Baby Boom has already passed away, and half will be gone by about 2035 (in 9 years). The median age of the US population is almost 40 now, up from about 30 not long ago. In 1970, about 11% of adults had a college degree; today, about 43% under age 35 have a college degree. Going to college delays marriage, family formation, home buying. Inflation (or devaluation of the value of the dollar) happened rapidly due to Covid era policies - see M2 money supply curve. There are no mysteries in any of this.

@mtaibbi The only time home ownership was higher was during the 2005-2007 no money down mortgage fraud period. The median age of the country has risen from around 29-30 to now almost 40, which is another factor in home buyer ages.

@BrianRoemmele I developed and wrote the 4-part series in DDJ on the "Augusta" language aka "Tiny Ada". I didn't use the "Tiny Ada" name because officially, Ada was trademarked.

The fiction that heart issues are all preventable. 10 years of normal lipid panels, never smoked, drank or did drugs, exercised regularly, had been pseudo vegetarian for years, had routine echo cardio finding heart normal for my age, and 9 weeks later, an MI, helicopter medevac to cath lab. While in ER, scan said I had "minor calcium deposits". I've lost confidence in the experts - a lot of people who did everything right still get nailed. And then we blame the patient, even if they did "everything right".

Inadvertently deleted my prior post explaining that I probably won't be posting much here. The past 2-3 weeks, while dealing with a possible torn gluteal tendon and sitting on ice all the time, I spent way too much time sharing facts to correct much misinformation here. I learned many people do not care for facts or logic, even on the simplest issues. The result is X, like most social media, has descended into a platform of misinformation. There's no way to get it under control when many do not want facts or logic - and trying to address that was a waste of time. Second, my typical post on X sees 10-30 views - which is less than what I get on my personal blog, so why use X? This is not a good use of my time (albeit, even while stuck in a chair). I have deleted most of my posts going back to late 2025 (with more to be removed) and will also be deleting most of my online replies. I will keep my account to follow a number of people with interesting, fun and kind content, and some specialty topics like economics, finance, and hobbies. But my future interactions and posting here will be curtailed. I may keep my Blue Check for access to Grok; Grok AI is pretty good. I did not fall off a cliff and die - I just decided there are other ways I would rather spend my time.

@Ryunade @samprkr Only about 15-18% of the full time workforce, today, has flexibility in work hours (varies by type of work done). Not a big deal for middle school and high school kids but would be an issue for elementary school kids and their parents.

The jet gun - and the vaccination program - were quite traumatic as a little kid, which is why I have a memory of it. We were also tested for TB, and at the end, we were given the Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV)-which was a sugar cube, sort of as a reward for going through all this. The mass vaccination was done in the school's cafeteria/assembly/indoor activities building - the largest room on the campus. We had to wait in line at each "station" (TB, smallpox, OPV).

According to the CDC the bifurcated needle for smallpox vaccinations was introduced in 1967/68. I was vaccinated at a public mass vaccination program in the mid-60s during a time when the jet gun was used for such programs. "In the US and other developed nations, mass vaccination drives in the mid-60s often utilized "jet guns" for speed." "Many people assume the bifurcated needle was used from the start because it is the iconic image of the smallpox era. However, the jet gun was the "workhorse" of the early 1960s mass vaccination efforts."

@CyborgPeds My smallpox vaccine as a kid was administered using a 'jet gun' or 'jet injector', which was later banned due to not being sterile and found capable of spreading disease. Anyway, it also left a circular scar.
