stannis is also noted to be accompanied by a priestess of r’hllor and shadowbinder named melisandre, who proclaimed him as the prince that was promised, a messiah figure. in the books he is currently marching towards winterfell to meet the boltons in battle.

afterwards stannis was given dragonstone as was custom for the king’s heir, but he instead took it as a slight. during the war of the five kings stannis is a claimant to the iron throne, as robert’s children are illegitimate and he is the true lawful heir.

stannis baratheon —— stannis the current lord of storm’s end. the younger brother of robert, he was the de facto lord of the castle while robert was away in the eyrie and throughout his rebellion. he refused to yield when the tyrells sieged it, and nearly died of starvation.

after robert’s death he crowned himself king at highgarden and attempted to skip his brother stannis in the line of succession. he was murdered before facing stannis on the field, allegedly by a shadow assassin conjured by the red priestess melisandre.

renly baratheon —— ruled during the reign of robert i. he was the youngest son of steffon and cassana, and was only a child when robert’s rebellion broke out. he lived through the siege of storm’s end, and after was gifted the castle while stannis was given dragonstone.

robert’s reign is noted to have been relatively peaceful and stable, though his lavish spending put the crown in debt. he also grew extremely fat after putting down greyjoy’s rebellion, and wanted nothing to do with ruling. he died in a hunting accident, gored by a massive boar.

after lyanna’s abduction by rhaegar targaryen and the executions of rickard and brandon stark, robert led a rebellion to take down the targaryen dynasty. he succeeded after killing rhaegar in the shallows of the trident, as king aerys did not live long after that.

robert was fostered as a child by jon arryn in the eyrie, where he became good friends with fellow ward eddard stark. his friendship with ned led him to being betrothed to his sister lyanna stark, whom he was apparently madly in love with.

robert baratheon —— robert ruled during the reign of aerys ii, and was the first king of the baratheon dynasty after the the fall of house targaryen.

steffon and cassana died in the return journey after being caught in a storm just in sight of storm’s end. their ship was smashed against the rocks of shipbreaker bay and they drowned. their sons robert and stannis watched the tragedy unfold from the battlements of the castle.

following the defiance of duskendale king aerys sent steffon and his wife cassana across the sea to volantis to find a ‘suitable’ valyrian bride for prince rhaegar. they were unsuccessful, but found a fool named patchface who might be able to make their dour son stannis smile.

steffon baratheon —— steffon ruled during the reigns of jaehaerys ii and aerys ii. in his youth he served as a page in king’s landing where he became good friends with tywin lannister and prince aerys targaryen. he then squired during the war of the ninepenny kings.

he was made commander of the forces sent to the stepstones to fight in what became known as the war of the ninepenny kings. ormund was one of the first casualties of the war, struck down by maeleys blackfyre, and died in the arms of his son and heir steffon.

ormund baratheon —— ormund ruled during the reign of aegon v and jaehaerys ii. he inherited storm’s end prior to his marriage to rhaelle targaryen and was hand of the king to jaehaerys ii following the tragedy at summerhall.

he eventually was let back into the king’s peace after yielding to ser duncan the tall of the kingsguard in a trial by combat, and agreed to a betrothal betwen aegon’s youngest daughter rhaelle and lyonel’s heir ormund. it is unknown how they are related.

aegon v’s eldest son duncan targaryen was originally betrothed to a daughter of lyonel, but broke the betrothal to marry a peasant girl named jenny of oldstones. lyonel, enraged by the slight, named himself storm king and fought a short-lived rebellion over it.

lyonel baratheon —— ruled during the reign of aegon v. he was a giant of a man and was known to laugh loudly at his opponents, earning him the nickname ‘the laughing storm’ and becoming a favorite among the smallfolk.
