Calling it a “basic fact and a direct, undeniable starting point” doesn’t make it true and doesn’t mean you aren’t assuming it. I could just as easily say “God is a basic fact and a direct, undeniable starting point.” If you’re saying anything not “observed” cannot be real, then consciousness isn’t real, moral values aren’t real, anything in the universe not yet observed isn’t real, etc. To say you’ve been observed by yourself and others assumes there is a “self” to observe and be observed prior to observation.
