Halloween H20: 20 Years Later (1998) 🎃 Released in the summer of 1998, Halloween H20: 20 Years Later revitalized a dying slasher franchise. It successfully launched the concept of the modern "legacy sequel" decades before it became a Hollywood staple. The project was initially conceived as a low-budget, direct-to-video feature for Dimension Films. Star Jamie Lee Curtis pitched the idea of returning to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the 1978 original, instantly elevating it to a major theatrical event. The plot served as a direct sequel to Halloween II (1981), establishing that Laurie Strode had faked her death and was hiding in California. The production was plagued by the mask designs for Michael Myers. Four different masks were used during shooting—including a heavily criticized CGI mask—leading to extensive reshoots.
