More of these comps need to go mainstream - there’s no way so many huge fans should be unaware of the history of their own sport or saying “did you even watch them play” when we actually have so much footage available!
@Desttpriuwaemb@AnamnesisF Minimal goal contributions (I know that’s not the way to judge him but at the end of the day he’s an attacking player and almost all his great moments in these games happen in middle rather than final third) - and the players I did mention - they did perform vs best sides w/ G+A
@Coolmacul@AnamnesisF Portugal game, he didn’t play great. Penalty in the final which was good but otherwise pretty quiet and red card. The standards are very high at the top. You can’t say Zidane was better in WC than Rossi or Beckenbauer or Garrincha or Cannavaro or Baggio or Didi or Eusebio etc
@Desttpriuwaemb@AnamnesisF I can
Zidane has 4 good games in his entire World Cup career, Brazil final 98 and 06, Italy game in 98 (0g/a), and the Spain game in 06
Outside of this, you’d struggle to name a dominant performance
@AnamnesisF Agreed on Maradona, he has a good World Cup in 82 and 90, but both I’d say you have to make a really good case to include him in the first XI of the tournament
Fair enough, we have the opposite view on Zidane/R9 in 98’ and I always consider Zidane 06 overrated (outside Brazil)
Dembele with his goal to also cap off a strong tournament. There’s been several great attacking performances in this tournament - Messi, Mbappe, Olise, Jude, Kane, Dembele, Haaland, Yamal, Vinicius, Olmo, Oyarzabal, Manzambi, Diomande - will be remembered as a great tournament.
@Alonc_93 He dominated 80% of his duels with Tagliafico - Spain openings in centre were often premeditated by Argentina players attracting to Yamal
Including for the goal. His gravity is a big reason, Spain creates so much in the right half space - either through him or others in area
@Alonc_93 What? He led all the stats and was the only one creating dangerous entries in to box
Yamal created best chance in normal time with cross for ferran header and for himself with the FK
Ferran Torres of all people (who’s had a very tough time against the Argentine CBs prior) gets free to finish. Nico has also struggled to get into the pace of the game since coming on, and think during the final actions. Spain finally break them down and are baring down on the WC
@Alonc_93 Agreed
Though Yamal has been Spains best player today so far so he can elevate his level a bit too (not to the names you mentioned, but maybe to the Vini/Dembele level if he wins this final)
