Enough with the Epstein Files!!!
@RevengeofSpook @BBHerodotus The spines were removed for ease of automated scanning of both sides of the pages. Bound books are particularly hard to scan without optical distortion. My question is what percentage of these books were still covered under active copyright.
Confirmation of Anthropic’s BOOK BURNING for their AI: The Great Forgetting of the Amnesia Generation In the quiet warehouses and shipping docks of 2024, Anthropic did not merely train an AI. It staged a quiet erasure of human knowledge. While the public was still dazzled by Claude’s fluent paragraphs and polished marketing emails, the company’s engineers and logistics teams were busy executing Project Panama—an internal campaign whose own documents announced the ambition to “destructively scan all the books in the world.” The method was industrial and irreversible: buy the physical volume SOMETIMES THE LAST COPY, slice its SPINE with a hydraulic cutter, feed the pages through high-speed scanners, then pulp what remained. Millions of books: scientific research, novels, rare technical treatises, obscure monographs, volumes that had already survived wars, fires, and decades of handling—were reduced to data tokens and then to wet mulch or burned. They literally burn the evidence of this crime against humanity. The company itself preferred the darkness. “We don’t want it to be known that we are working on this,” the planning memos warned. A federal judge later blessed the slaughter. Because Anthropic had purchased the copies and then destroyed them, the court held, the act was “transformative” fair use. Ownership plus obliteration equaled permission. The ruling handed every subsequent AI lab a legal license to treat the printed past as disposable feedstock. That license is now being exercised at industrial scale. In 2026, companies like ISBNdb openly market pre-2022 books as the last pure reservoir of human language—text uncontaminated by the synthetic sludge that large language models themselves have already poured into the open web. Orders arrive for tens or hundreds of thousands of titles at a time. Non-disclosure agreements are standard. The preferred language is “digital preservation.” The actual outcome is the same mechanical process Anthropic refined: spine cut, pages scanned, original shredded. Rare and near-unique copies are disappearing into the same pipeline. Booksellers across continents report sudden, strange bulk orders for specialized, low-demand titles that no ordinary collector would ever buy in volume. Once the pages are gone, they are gone forever. A website can be re-uploaded. A bestseller can be reprinted. The last three surviving copies of an eighteenth-century botanical text cannot. This is not progress. It is the Great Forgetting. An entire generation of machines is being taught to speak by consuming and then discarding the physical record of human thought. The companies that profit from the resulting fluency call the process necessary, legal, and even enlightened. They speak of curated knowledge and domain-specific expertise while the spines crack and the paper is carted away. Anthropic did not invent the hunger for data, but it demonstrated openly in private documents and then under court seal how far a well-funded laboratory was willing to go to satisfy it, and how readily the law would ratify the destruction. Just to gain a temporary AI benchmark advantage. The amnesia is already here. Future models will generate elegant sentences to beat Al sorts of tests about history, science, and literature. They will do so on the ashes of the books that once contained those sentences. The generation that built these systems will leave its children fluent machines and emptier shelves. That is the real product of Project Panama and its successors: not intelligence, but a carefully engineered cultural void, papered over with synthetic prose and non-disclosure agreements. We are left to forget to remember. We are The Amnesia Generation with our brains being put into a meat grinder and fed back to us.
🦔AI companies are bulk-buying rare books, scanning them through high-speed machines that cut the spines off, and shredding the originals. A service called ISBNdb facilitates orders of up to a million books and keeps buyers anonymous. Pre-2022 books are premium because they're free of AI-generated text. A federal judge ruled the practice is fair use because eliminating the original means only one copy exists at a time. Anthropic hired the former head of Google Books partnerships to obtain "all the books in the world." My Take This got to me. A bookseller told 404 Media that rare books with almost no surviving copies are being fed into this pipeline. Books that survived wars, fires, and centuries of handling are being shredded so an AI can learn to write a better marketing email. ISBNdb's website literally says "'AI company destroys two million books' is not a headline that generates sympathy," and they still built an entire business around making it happen quietly. They offer NDAs as a feature. They coach clients to call it "digital preservation." I've covered AI companies scraping the internet, torrenting libraries, and stealing music. This is worse because it's irreversible. You can re-upload a website. You can reprint a bestseller. You can't replace the last three copies of an 18th-century botanical text once someone shreds them for training data. And the judge said it's legal. So it's going to accelerate. "We shred rare books and offer NDAs so nobody finds out" is a legitimate business model in 2026. What a timeline. Hedgie🤗

Geez! This is incredible and AOC is brilliant in the way she presents this. It also scares the hell out of me that this is possible.
🦔A Nikkei investigation found that Alphabet, Microsoft, Amazon, Meta, and Oracle have $1.65 trillion in debt that doesn't appear on their balance sheets, more than the $1.35 trillion they officially report. These are GPU contracts, data center leases, and joint ventures that don't count as debt under accounting rules until the facilities go live. Meta's hidden debt is $420 billion, triple its reported debt. Oracle's grew 30-fold in four years. All five declined to comment. My Take Nikkei examined the actual filings and put a number on something the BIS already flagged as "shadow borrowing" back in March. These companies owe more off their balance sheets than on them, and the accounting rules let them keep it that way until the data centers go live. That's legal, but it means investors looking at quarterly earnings this week are seeing less than half the picture. Four of these five report earnings in the next two weeks. The reported debt will look manageable. The $1.65 trillion in footnotes won't make the headlines. But when those data centers start operating, the leases hit the books all at once. If AI demand comes in below projections, those facilities get marked down and the losses land on the investors and insurance policyholders who funded the construction through private credit and project bonds without realizing how much total exposure they were carrying. Hedgie🤗

A college student just killed the biggest advantage politicians have ever had. The gap between the lie and the fact-check. He built a Chrome extension called InTruth. It listens to any live speech, debate, or interview. Transcribes every word. And checks every claim against real sources in real time. Before the speaker even finishes the sentence. It works on debates. Press conferences. Town halls. Interviews. Anything with someone talking on video. The fact-check shows up on your screen while they're still talking. Until now, fact-checking happened hours or days later. By then the clip has been shared, the headline has been written, and the damage is done. Nobody reads the correction. InTruth closes that gap to seconds. The claim and the fact-check exist in the same moment. A college student, a Chrome extension, and an AI model just did what entire newsrooms couldn't figure out for decades.
@brettkeogh @SqSehrish actually it is. as a example, a 10 foot rope cut into 6 inch segments (0.5 ft) produces 20 6 inch pieces of rope.

Where conservatives are concerned, this guy nailed’em!
A network engineer solved a problem in a single night in 1984 that every other engineer said was impossible. Then she wrote a 10-line poem about it. That poem is now printed inside a US patent, and the algorithm underneath it quietly keeps every office network on Earth from collapsing. Her name is Radia Perlman. She hates the title the industry gave her. They call her the Mother of the Internet, and she has spent decades telling people to stop, because she says no single person invented the internet and the title makes no sense. The problem is that the thing she actually built is so foundational that the exaggeration keeps sticking to her anyway. Here is what happened. In 1984 she was working at Digital Equipment Corporation. Her manager walked into her office and asked her to design a box that could connect one local network to another and move data between them automatically, without the computers on either side having to know anything about it. The catch was brutal. If you wire real networks together, you inevitably create loops. Cable A connects to B, B connects to C, C connects back to A. The moment a loop exists, data starts circling it forever. Every message multiplies as it goes around, and within seconds the loop floods the entire network with infinite copies of itself until the whole thing chokes and dies. This failure has a name. A broadcast storm. In the early 1980s it was the nightmare that made large networks nearly impossible to build. One accidental loop could take down everything. Her manager told her the box had to prevent this on its own. It had to use almost no memory. It had to work without any central controller. And it had to configure itself, because no human could be expected to manually map every connection in a growing network. Most engineers considered the combination impossible. You cannot police every possible loop in a network without knowing the whole shape of the network, and knowing the whole shape was exactly the thing she was told she could not require. She went home. That night she woke up with the answer fully formed. The insight was to stop thinking about the network as wires and start thinking about it as a tree. A tree is a shape with no loops. Every branch connects back to a single root, and there is exactly one path from any point to any other. If you could take a messy tangle of network cables and force the switches to agree on a single loop-free tree hiding inside that tangle, the storms became impossible. The loops would still physically exist in the cabling. The switches would simply agree, automatically, never to use them. The part that made it genius was how little each switch had to know. No switch needs a map of the network. Each one only needs its own ID and the cost of reaching its immediate neighbors. From nothing but that local information, the entire network self-organizes into one agreed-upon tree, elects a root, and shuts off every redundant path that could cause a loop. If a cable fails, the tree silently rebuilds itself around the damage. She wrote the full specification the next day. It ran six pages. It was clear enough that the engineers who had to build it implemented it directly from her description with no confusion. Then she had almost a week left before her manager came back from vacation, and too much nervous energy to work on anything else. So she wrote a poem about the algorithm, modeled on Joyce Kilmer's famous poem Trees. A colleague named it Algorhyme. It opens with the line every network engineer eventually learns by heart. I think that I shall never see a graph more lovely than a tree. Years later, when she filed a patent for an improvement to the protocol, she included the poem inside the patent's background description. It is very likely the only software patent on record that contains a poem. The protocol she invented that night is called the Spanning Tree Protocol. For decades it ran inside effectively every network switch on the planet. When you plugged your computers, printers, and servers into an office network and the data simply flowed without the whole system melting down, that quiet reliability was her algorithm running underneath, deciding in the background which paths to use and which to silently ignore. She has said the most valuable thing she brought to the problem was a kind of ignorance. She had not been in networking long enough to absorb the assumptions everyone else had lived with for years. She could look at the impossible list of requirements and see a simple answer precisely because nobody had trained her to believe it was hard. The people who change a field are rarely the ones carrying the most expertise into the room. Sometimes they are the ones who never learned which walls they were supposed to respect.
