I haven’t been on it for decades but Effxor did help for a bit, but the side effects were too much. Could be the meaning of the name “EFF your XOR” you’re not getting one or the other result your getting all the effects. Or it could be side “Effex or die”. If you don’t hear that early morning rattle of those tiny balls sliding down your throat you’re gonna be “Eff’d X’d or” worse!

The first time I saw you guys, probably within the first few weeks of coming on air, (I was playing with those early brokerages like options house and trade monster and was voratiously looking for info on options) I thought the cherries and general aesthetic was so cheesy, but immediately felt it was different than the stuffy talking heads selling commissions with dreams. It was obvious to the kids dabbling in options (exotic at the time), that it was different, and it felt like you were giving away esoteric secrets the old timers would have rather stayed hidden. It was kind of magical and dangerous even with the bright vibe. Kinda like the masked magician getting death threats for exposing all their tricks. Even the shadow trader kids were there haha. I still have my original trapper with all of the strategies I made as a laminated “mind map” ;D All that said, I am still watching occasionally, but more and more it is starting to feel like those shows I was avoiding that brought me there in the first place. With all of the changes, and the way it happened, it also makes me worried about using the platform. If they are willing to spring things like this, and make it feel like a bad jack in the box surprise, would they tell us of the business really started to falter? I know that may be unlikely, but it was such a blow to trust, I just feel very leary and it lives in the back of my mind. Anyway, that was a long vent, and I just want to say you all changed my life in such an amazing way, and I know I am just one of many so no matter what you all can be proud of that! I’m on lossdog and if you decided to make it a full featured platform I wouldn’t hesitate! How long is that non compete heheh?

“Surveillance pricing” will be the default for frontier companies where they drop you to the less capable models for a larger percentage of token gen, or even more insidious max extraction techniques. This could happen so fast that it could even be between your monitor refresh rate so you never notice the icon change. I am speculating and have no evidence, but the slide into dystopian dark patterns persists as a popular extension of monopolistic “max” culture.

@BrianRoemmele I remember a blue typewriter my friend had in the 80s and he thought it was so boring but for me it was magical to follow the directions to “program” a typing tutorial game. I wish I knew what it was called!

@InuitKodiak It happens, and sometimes the person giving the evil eye isn’t even aware they are attacking their friends! Especially if you are sharing an exciting opportunity, or a success story. I strive to always truly enjoy the success of others, even if it is something I want for myself!

Haha well yeah I was planning to do some of that as well ;D. Granted that is a overpowered beast and I can get by, but the reality is everything doubled or tripled in price and i can’t really double my rate to keep up. I mainly had that in a cart just to keeo tabs on compute inflation. I have plenty of horsepower for now to keep working but the uograde cycle has been delayed indefinitely and the hard drives are the pain point in the near term.

I keep almost posting a rant about what the reckless AI buildout is doing to my business but want so badly to be a positive force in this space. Suffice it to say, anyone in the video production world, especially independent editors are feeling massive amounts of pain right now.

@MagusFawn I have a Apple Studio that I got last year but like to have both pc and mac for certain tasks and software so was planning a PC upgrade but that is where it really gets difficult. A rig that was going for 35k (already nuts) last November is now 78k for the exact same setup.

@MagusFawn The increase in the cost of hardware is far outpacing what I am able to charge a customer. I am mostly getting 8k projects now and the hard drive cost alone is forcing me to increase my rate. The margins are tight, and the customers are having a hard time with the new rates.

@BrianRoemmele I remember noticing this on shoes years ago where the sole would look like rubber but as it wore down became fuzzy. I looked it up and realized they were exploiting this loophole. The problem was that they became very slippery on ice. So many examples of “look at the incentives”!

I do not think it is intentionally a marketing ploy, however they have been leaning into the “scare” narrative to push it into the headlines in the past couple of years. They published some of the roadmap through stripe press, specifically “Boom, Bubbles and the end of stagnation”. Stripe Press make beautiful books btw. That said, this is certainly unintentional and not a good thing especially when the open weight debate just started to pop up and then Hugging Face having to resort to open weights to defend. An absolute disaster in that sense.

@kenneth0stanley @BlackstoneAudio I will forever recommend this book as it changed my life and gave me permission to live life in style, and always do the most interesting thing! As an audio book, I might actually be able to get some that shall remain unnamed to “read” it with me ;D

Just as chatter regarding the restriction of open weight models make headlines, an OpenAI agent attacks HuggingFace, home of open models! Seed the narrative, create an incident, market the capabilities, all while scaring normies to grease the way for regulatory capture. Win win!
