THESE TRICKS CAN SAVE YOUR LIFE ONE DAY 1. Choking alone — Thrust your belly hard against a chair edge. It pushes the blockage out. 2. Heart attack — Chew one aspirin immediately. Chewing gets it into your blood 3x faster. 3. Bleeding won’t stop — Press hard for 10 full minutes without lifting. Lifting resets clotting every time. 4. Someone faints — Lay flat, lift legs 12 inches up. Blood returns to the brain instantly. 5. Burns — Run cool water for 20 minutes. Never use ice. It makes burns worse. 6. Electric shock victim — Never touch them. Kick the power source away with a dry wooden object first. 7. Severe allergic reaction, no EpiPen — Keep them sitting upright. Lying flat drops blood pressure fast. Can be fatal. 8. Seizure — Don’t hold them down. Turn them on their side and time it. Over 5 minutes — call 911. 9. Broken bone, no help nearby — Never straighten it. Splint it as it is. Movement causes more damage. 10. Panic attack — Press tongue to roof of mouth, breathe through nose only. Nervous system calms in 60 seconds. 11. Heart beating too fast — Bear down hard for 10 seconds. It triggers the vagus nerve and slows your heart. 12. Deep cut, blood pumping fast — Raise the limb above heart level while pressing. Gravity slows the bleeding.
Underrated life advice: You can literally start to turn your whole life around by winning the next 24 hours. One clean day becomes evidence. Evidence becomes momentum. Momentum becomes a new life.
@phresh_arrow Is there an alternative to the incline walk that is better for the knees? My knee hurts a lot (osteoarthritis) whenever I do that.
The older I get, the more I realise that someone making time for you is one of the clearest signs they care. Everyone is busy. Everyone has responsibilities and their own battles to fight. So when someone consistently chooses to spend their time with you, checks on you and makes space for you in their life, it means something. Time is the one thing we can never get back and people don't give it away lightly.
One of my favorite things I've read recently is about a woman who said whenever a negative thought about herself popped up, she would shout "GUARDS!" and imagine knights entering and carrying the thought away.
Five years of asking, and the dog dream finally happened 🐶
when Carl Jung said, “No matter how isolated you are and how lonely you feel, if you do your work truly and conscientiously, unknown allies will seek you out.” He was saying that real work has a frequency. When you commit to your path with truth, discipline, and solitude, the people meant for your journey eventually find you. So don’t fear the lonely season. Sometimes God removes the noise so your real allies can hear you clearly.
Psychologists once had 600 angry people hit a punching bag. One group pictured the person who had wronged them while they swung. Another group just sat quietly and did nothing. The venters walked away angrier, and more aggressive, than the people who sat still. That result keeps showing up. A 2024 review out of Ohio State pooled 154 studies and more than 10,000 people. Slow breathing, meditation, and gentle movement brought anger down. Rage rooms and screaming into a pillow did nothing. One of the lead researchers put it plainly: venting anger is like using gasoline to put out a fire. Talking about a bad experience feels different from punching something, so you would expect it to work better. A Belgian psychologist named Bernard Rimé spent years tracking what happens after people share an emotional event. Almost everyone does it, usually within hours. Across sixteen separate datasets, the sharing left people feeling supported and closer to whoever listened. It did not lower how much the memory still stung. If anything, retelling the story switched the feeling back on for both people in the room. There is a specific version of this that lands harder. Amanda Rose, a psychologist at the University of Missouri, named it co-rumination: two people rehashing the same problem again and again, fixating on the worst of it. Her work keeps finding the same trade-off. People who do this grow closer to their friends and carry more anxiety and depression at the same time. The friendship does get closer, which is why it is easy to mistake for healing. The approaches that hold up in the research are quieter. Name the feeling, briefly, in plain words. When people label an emotion as angry or scared, brain scans show the amygdala, the alarm system, going quiet while the reasoning part of the brain switches on. Writing helps too. In the first study of this, people who spent fifteen minutes over four days writing about a painful experience went to the doctor about half as often over the next six months. None of this means bottling it up. Sitting on your feelings damages your health as well. The line the research keeps drawing is between one person who helps you make sense of something and an audience you keep re-performing the pain for.
My mom still waves from the front porch every time I leave her house. Every single time. Even though I'm an adult. Even though I only live twenty minutes away. Last weekend, I looked in the rearview mirror and saw her standing there smiling until I turned the corner. Some things make you feel like a kid again. I'm grateful this is one of them.

This is what “winning in life” looks like
A few hundred people walked into a university clinic, most of them depressed or anxious. Some were handed one small task: write a single thank-you letter a week, for three weeks. Three months later, a brain scanner picked up what those letters had left behind. That is the study under this tweet. Prathik Kini and a team at Indiana University ran it about a decade ago, and what gets boiled down to "gratitude rewires the brain" is gentler and stranger than the slogan. Look at who they studied first. Almost every gratitude experiment before this one used happy, well-adjusted college students. This team went looking for people who were actually struggling, signing them up the week they started counseling, when they scored low on mental health. Nearly 300 of them. The question that mattered was whether gratitude helps someone in pain, not just someone who already feels fine. The task was tiny. One letter a week, to a person they had never properly thanked. Three letters, and that was the whole thing. And they were told they did not have to send them. Only 23 percent did. The other 77 percent wrote to a parent or an old friend, never sealed the envelope, and got better anyway. The benefit was not in the other person reading it. It was in sitting down and searching your own life for someone worth thanking. It also grew, which is the strange part. One week after the writing stopped, the gratitude group looked no different from anyone else. By four weeks they were clearly doing better, and by twelve weeks the gap had widened further. Most feel-good habits lose their effect as time passes. This one did the opposite. When the team looked at why, the answer surprised them. It was not that the grateful writers used more happy words. It was that they used fewer bitter ones. Gratitude worked by leaving less room for resentment and envy, and less room to replay the worst parts of your day. Then the scanner. Three months after the letters began, some of the writers and non-writers did a task where they could give away real money whenever they felt thankful. The gratitude writers showed stronger activity in the medial prefrontal cortex, a part of the brain tied to learning and choices, when gratitude hit. The researchers stayed careful. They called the result suggestive, not proof, and said gratitude "may help train the brain to be more sensitive" to feeling thankful over time. So the honest version is quieter than "neuroplasticity in action," and in some ways it is better. The brain change was small, and even the people who found it would not oversell it. What clearly worked was almost too simple. People in pain sat down once a week and looked for someone to thank, and months later they were steadier than the people who did not. You do not need anyone to receive the letter. The reaching is the part that heals.
every time you replace "this is hard" with "what's the first step?" you shift brain activity from your amygdala (fear) to your prefrontal cortex (problem-solving). that's neuroplasticity in real time.
Have you ever noticed it takes teachers a couple of weeks before they actually start feeling like it's summer? There's a reason for that. Teaching isn't just mentally exhausting. It's emotionally exhausting. For ten months your brain has been solving problems, making hundreds of decisions a day, reading the emotions of students, managing behaviors, worrying about the child who didn't eat breakfast, encouraging the one who's ready to give up, and trying to make sure every student leaves your classroom believing they matter. You don't just shut that off because the calendar says June. So if you're just now starting to relax, don't feel guilty. Your brain isn't behind. It's recovering. Maybe that's one of the reasons teachers need summer more than they realize. Not because they need a vacation, but because they need time for their mind and heart to catch up with everything they experienced throughout the school year. Sometimes the healthiest thing you can do isn't prepare for next year. It's simply let your mind and body recover from this one.
Going to leave you with this tonight: The best thing you can do for yourself is actively increase your surface area for luck to hit you. Go outside, travel more, go to new cates, museums, events, take a new route home, go for hikes, see cities, countrysides, take your notebook, speak to people, ask questions, start businesses - go on more side quests. You can literally just do things, and the more you do, the more serendipity and synchronicity will find you.
