This is shocking on multiple levels. A Freedom of Information request revealed that 158 individuals granted private hire licences had prior convictions for violent offences. In addition, 61 had drug-related convictions, 36 had drink-driving offences, and 4 had sexual offence convictions. Overall, the FOI showed that 438 licences were issued to individuals with criminal records in the last year alone. Further concern arises from reporting by @carolinegall1, which conflates taxi drivers with private hire drivers.
