@Industriarchy@Nowooski@wil_da_beast630 there were only 92 divorces in the entire sample so any claims about % of divorces initiated by men or women in smaller subsamples is probably bad
@Industriarchy@Nowooski@wil_da_beast630 i think he doesn't have enough data to make an estimate, so he has to make a guess about 'in my view is too high to be feasible'. the core relevant coefficients from table 2 (effects of female ed or ed diff on break up likelihood) are all statistically insignificant.
@landsheapes@Jabaluck@alexrmoskowitz there is a widespread joke among political scientists that anything with good data becomes economics (in that sb inside an economics department will seize on it and publish a paper in an econ journal about it)
@HannibalBarcids@alz_zyd_ if you go into any economics department there are whole swaths of ph.d. students if not faculty who reject macroeconomics as doable at all and just do regressions on micro level data because they are just rebranded data scientists
@HannibalBarcids@alz_zyd_ very much the point of OP is that the subset of people who do macroeconomics and finance is a minority of what economics is as a field now
@aRafAtSea @AlfredoPaloyo@evanrobertsnz at most institutions most econ ph.d. students are not into the macro/political economy side of things, which is why most ph.d. theses these days are regressions on random things
@devarbol oh yeah. i mean i know vietnam did all the lip service to algeria etc. but i think the vietnamese perspective was that they were doing outreach for the eastern bloc. feels like surely cuba thought the same.
@devarbol oh yeah i'm sure lots of people projected things onto this but at least knowing what i know about vietnam there's no way what they believed about HCM was remotely close to reality
@memeticsisyphus there's obviously no 'rational' reason for it but for example pho with any meat except beef or chicken (i.e. the prestige meats) would be seen as a huge aberration in vietnam
@memeticsisyphus as a vietnamese person i would like to credit this version of pho to american cuisine. the same way general tso's chicken and chicken fettucine alfredo should be rightly credited as american cuisine.
@SuperNo41626389@memeticsisyphus its cultivation did spread from south asia to south east and east asia thousands of years ago. i actually want to contest the claim on lime more bc there is no evidence citrus fruit domestication occurred once in any specific place and 'lime' covers many distinct species.
