Early prints of the Japanese release had "Ecco, a dolphin with 7 spots on his head" on the cover. This was quickly fixed to 5, however some boxes were still sold like that. Pictures courtesy of Callyfin of our community!
@teh_ray General feeling of loneliness, plus there is a scene where a storm wrecks the ship he's on and Kimba almost drowns. I don't have the recording of that Q&A where Ed mentions this. Hope they release it one day.

I feel really stupid. Two extra 32-bit fields in chunk header data inside .GDE files are regular time_t timestamp. Those that do have it set suggest work on DoTF was started around June 1998.

@zaiphirion Found this screenshot in my archives. IIRC, Menace's session crashed and wouldn't save, so we were rescuing her work that way. Wasn't aware the board got hacked in the end =(
@zaiphirion Likely the feedback they were getting about the original game. I think first they added a proper selection screen, then they made dynamic difficulty leverage that. That comment of Ed's really did help paint the full picture!
Ed: "Hard mode in Tides of Time was really "normal" difficulty in our minds". This explains why EASY code was kept as without a selection screen that would be the only way to access easy mode. And then they likely forgot to remove it =)
@VISlaaVIneshVI Really wish more games would emphasize sound like this. F.E.A.R. was another one where I remember being stunned hearing sound of your footsteps reflect off the walls and change as you move around the room.

@VISlaaVIneshVI Very much so. So sad it got taken off Steam. The whole concept how monsters can't see you either, but you still NEED to make noise to know where you are... This would work brilliantly in Ecco!
@zaiphirion I usually try and ask him questions that are more likely to spark his interest. But for many Defender would have been their first Ecco game and they are often unaware Ed was not involved. 26 years is practically an entire generation ago!

@JanelleWaz Absolutely! They still look perfect when rendered on modern equipment: a real testament to talents at Novotrade.
We have to give it to DoTF artists in terms of those alien spaceship designs. I think that's the closest we've gotten to "What if Vortex could into space", realistically.
