There is a reason why I call Africa a village. I used to think building a business in Senegal was difficult because Senegal was poor. Then I realized I had it backwards. People are poor because they do not have enough income. Income mostly comes from jobs, and those jobs come from businesses. So when African countries make it so hard to start and run businesses, where are the jobs supposed to come from?

Every year on May 4th, a middle school teacher in Michigan bakes a chocolate cake with vanilla frosting. She has done this for nineteen years. The cake is not for a student in her class. The student is no longer in her class. He was in her class in 2005. He sat in the second row, third seat. He was not the top of the class. He asked her once, before recess, if she thought he was smart enough to be a Marine. She said she thought he was smart enough to be anything. He was killed in Anbar Province in 2006. He was nineteen. The cake is for him. She bakes it on May 4th because that is his birthday. On the first year she took the cake to his mother's house, and his mother did not know what to say, and neither did she, and they sat at a kitchen table with the cake between them and neither of them ate any of it and the mother wrapped it in foil at the end of the night and put it in her freezer. The second year she took another cake. By the fifth year the mother had begun to expect her. By the tenth year the mother had begun to bake something small in return. This year the mother is eighty-one. The teacher is sixty-four. Both of them have grandchildren now, and both of them still sit at the same kitchen table on May 4th, and there is chocolate cake with vanilla frosting on a small plate between them, and they eat some of it and they wrap the rest in foil, and the mother puts it in her freezer. There are nineteen wrapped cakes in the mother's freezer. She has never thrown one away. She has told her daughter, plainly, that the freezer is not to be cleaned out after she is gone. The teacher will keep coming. She has decided this, quietly, on her own, in a way she does not have to explain. She was his seventh grade English teacher. She had him for one year. She has baked twenty cakes. He is still nineteen.

We’ve barely scratched the surface of what can be done with AI + Robotics. This CNC robot in Italy just completed a full-size marble Tyche statue in only 15 days of continuous work. What used to take master sculptors years… now takes two weeks.
