@StefanAsbom @Mellybelly609 @CatholicDrip___ unsure if RC/EO consider Baptism and/or Holy Communion to be works in the sense James is writing, but perhaps. maybe even Lutherans consider those Sacraments to be works. above all, it's the continued work of obedience and cooperation (which looks different from day to day)

@Catholic_bro following Jesus led me to Catholicism... I am still struggling with figuring everything out and learning amid the divisions in Christianity, but my number one priority is trusting in God and it seems abundantly clear where I need to be.

@StefanAsbom @CatholicDrip___ i am not entirely sure what these verses aim to demonstrate, and we can disagree on mortal sin actually existing or not - i am wondering what you would conclude about someone living in unrepentant "big deal" sin after having put their faith in Christ as their Savior

@StefanAsbom @CatholicDrip___ this is an extreme example and it's important to note that a negligible amount of Christians abuse and presume like this. but what is the pratical distinction between "you actually have to" and "you don't have to, but if you don't then your faith being genuine is up for debate"

@StefanAsbom @Mellybelly609 @CatholicDrip___ any Christian will talk about the importance of continuing the journey of sanctification, there is just disagreement about if that continuation is necessary to be saved. most say no perseverence = no salvation, although the way in which that equivalence works can differ too

@StefanAsbom @Mellybelly609 @CatholicDrip___ what Christ has made possible, the Holy Spirit makes actual; the idea is that one is saved at their baptism, is being saved by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, and hopes to be saved by perseverence in charity. it's a continual process that unfolds during one's life.

@StefanAsbom @CatholicDrip___ How can one tell if they have received the guarantee of salvation? And is there anything one can do to forfeit their salvation?
