Inside I said: THE FEE IS FIXED ACROSS THE ENTIRE NATION AND WAS SET BY NO ONE. We ate on the floor because the sofa was against the wall and none of us wanted to be the first to sit on it. Tony told me his daughter plays soccer. I asked if she is good. He said, "She's aggressive." I still think about that. Three weeks later, Kevin texted me. "You free Sunday? Helping Tony move a fridge." He did not ask if I wanted to. He informed me of a fridge. Inside I said: I HAVE BEEN CALLED UP. I DID NOT ENLIST. THE PAPERS WERE FILED ON MY BEHALF. I went. I moved the fridge. I have no truck. I contributed only arms. Afterward, a man I had never met asked me if I knew anybody with a truck. I said, "Yeah, I got a guy." I have a guy. I am somebody's guy now, too. Tony has told two people about me. He describes me as "the guy who's strong for his size." I have never been prouder of a sentence in my life.

La cuestión es que ese concepto de imperialismo solo incluye a Estados Unidos y no los imperialismos chino, ruso, iraní y saudí, porque piensan con un esquema mental binario anclado en la Guerra Fría. Reducen el imperialismo a Occidente y relativizan los imperialismos no occidentales. No pueden aceptar que un régimen que se opone a Estados Unidos pueda ser una dictadura asesina y opresora, con capacidad de expansión, influencia y armado de milicias en todo Medio Oriente. Si un sistema desafía al orden occidental automáticamente asumen que está “del lado bueno” aunque subordine a las mujeres, persiga minorías, restrinja libertades y reemplace la soberanía popular por mandato religioso, o sea todo lo que ustedes supuestamente combaten en el plano local. Es decir, los derechos que defienden se supeditan a la ubicación geográfica y geopolítica del régimen que los viola. Y como no lo pueden argumentar eso racionalmente, acusan de facho a todo aquel que los contradice.

Chikes, "cipayo" se usa para quienes sirven a intereses coloniales/imperiales (Milei, por ej.), no para quienes somos solidarios con pueblos oprimidos/atacados (Palestina, por ej.) Yo sé que son brutos, como buenos fascistas, pero a otro lado con eso de subvertir las cosas.

El contrato social del alcohol es muy interesante. Desinhibe haciendo que todo el mundo que bebe en un grupo se convierta en igual de vulnerable. No es algo consciente pero el no bebedor no se percibe simplemente como alguien que ha elegido no beber, sino como alguien que no ha firmado el contrato, que se niega a participar en el ritual. Mientras los demás bajan la guardia, el que no bebe permanece lúcido, contenido, intacto. Esa asimetría genera incomodidad. El sobrio se convierte en un observador cuando el resto se ha ofrecido como participante. No es que el no bebedor haga algo mal, pero no comparte la vulnerabilidad. De ahí que se cuestione al no bebedor. No creo que nadie lo haga conscientemente, repito. No es que quieran volverte alcohólico, es que se ha creado una asimetría incómoda.

El alcohol no solo está normalizado sino que está incluso aplaudido. Y quien no lo consume es cuestionado muchas veces. "¿Te pasa algo?, "¿es porque tomas medicación?", "no me fío de alguien que no bebe", "venga una copita, no seas muermo".
