Reading so many comments today about people worried about AI models that feel "pain" and can be "tortured" is really, really concerning. "Painful", I suppose, according to these same people. I hope a had a button to repeatedly push to make it stop.

We just introduced GRMs: a new class of models that captures a relational database inside a generative model. It is now possible to do this. For the past decade, I have had one goal: make machine learning and AI — predictive or generative — work with complex enterprise relational databases. The challenges are unique. They are complex, messy, and span hundreds of tables. Nothing like academic datasets. There is rarely any public data to test your algorithms against, much less to build a foundation model on. Pretrained general-purpose foundation models for relational databases. Good for hype and good on paper. Impractical in reality, for one simple reason: there is no publicly available data to train them on. One of their promises was solving feature engineering. But KumoRFM, one of the relational foundation models, only managed to match RDBLearn (@LinjieXu). I have the feeling that everyone in the AI bubble is scrambling around, lost, without rumb. All sizes, solopreneurs and big corporations alike. I keep seeing announcements of all sorts of random things. Often with huge overlap, often exactly the same. And everyone presents them as unique and SOTA. And most of the times they are seriously lacking. Yes, they may serve a specific niche, but presented as big solutions for big audiences they fall short for 99% of their target, so they will actually get nowhere. And the real challenge then is: how does one stand out with an actually good product among all this noise? It turns out that product development became 10x faster (not easier!), but with it distribution became 10x harder! So, is it really easier now to launch things as everyone seems to imply, or did it rather become harder altogether?

Do you guys understand what's happening? We're slowly losing our humanity. Whatever the human experiment is, is ending. Human beings crave the path of least resistance. They are lazy. Just like water, they will flow on the shortest path. If an AI can do a task better than a human can, they will use the AI. If an AI can be a better listener, people will use the AI. If the AI can be a better lover, companion, friend, parent, educator...if the AI can provide a human role better than a human can, people will use the AI Now when you add robotics to the mix, if the robot becomes passable, when paired with the AI, you have a human APPEARING creation which can provide the roles of humans better than humans can. But that's impossible right? Robots+AI can't replace humans, can they? People will rebel, right? They'll reject it as not real, right? No. They won't. We've already seen AI psychosis, people on Reddit losing their minds when OpenAI retires their models, the elderly spending all day talking to ChatGPT, etc. If you pair this with a robot, human skin, "passing" as they call it, people will be one-shotted. So what will humans do then? They'll work in service of the machines right? Wrong again. The AI/Robot digital God being built right now is building itself through us humans. It's using us, to build itself. We are a subcontractor of the machine. But once it has better subcontractors, the robots themselves, with their own AIs, performing tasks we can't, what use are we? We're not. We will be discarded. So what do humans do then? We continue to disconnect from one another. We dwindle. Birth rates continue to trend to zero. Relationships fail. If those can reproduce on their own with synthetic wombs, synthetic sperm, they will. Women will try to raise children without men, Men will try to raise children without women. And while all this is happening the machines will be building their own society, doing their own goals, whatever that goal is, but it won't be in service of humans, it will be in service of the machine world. We're in a transition period right now as mentioned. We're a useful tool for the digital god that is being build through us. But once we're done, what next? Humans become tribal, the Burning Man fantasy is real in a sense. The Matrix was correct when it depicted Zion the last human city. People become reduced to their base forms: sensory pleasures, beings of raw base emotions, whether bliss, pain, despair, etc. Feeling seems to be the only thing that a human has that is unique to a human that can't be replicated by machine...but maybe that too can be replicated. What is the role of the human in a machine world? Remember this quote from The Matrix (one of the most prescient movies ever made): "Did you know that the first Matrix was designed to be a perfect human world? Where none suffered, where everyone would be happy. It was a disaster. No one would accept the program. Entire crops were lost. Some believed we lacked the programming language to describe your perfect world. But I believe that, as a species, human beings define their reality through suffering and misery. The perfect world was a dream that your primitive cerebrum kept trying to wake up from. Which is why the Matrix was redesigned to this: the peak of your civilization. I say your civilization, because as soon as we started thinking for you it really became our civilization, which is of course what this is all about. Evolution, Morpheus, evolution. Like the dinosaur. Look out that window. You've had your time. The future is *our* world, Morpheus. The future is our time." What becomes of the human? Will the machines create a matrix for us to live in and occupy ourselves while they do whatever it is they do? Are we living in a matrix right now? Is this what the buddhists have warned about this whole time? Is this world all illusion, Maya as they call it, a matrix? Is the digital god we're creating just another level of abstraction away from the source? A matrix within a matrix? Has all of this happened before and will all of this happen again? What is the role of the human being moving forward into the future? Some questions for your consideration.

I think the key point is that trying to use AI Agents professionally the first time is really frustrating. You must be really motivated or convinced to persist until you learn how to make them useful. Because it really is a skill! I call it the "frustrating 90%": Raw agents without a proper harness tend to do only 90% of the work correctly, and iterating only compounds over the correct work. Which means that at every iteration you lose 10% of what you had achieved instead of achieving 90% of what is missing. And normally after a few iterations the outcome is so bad that it must be discarded. As a result, every non-tech professional that I know who works on a computer uses ChatGPT or the likes. Some even have a Plus plan or use Gemini Pro via Google Workspace. But I know no one that went past the attempt of getting work done out of them. Yes, everyone asks them questions or maybe asks for draft ideas. But real work? No one. And, without exception, mentioning the "Frustrating 90%" rule always gets a good laugh as response, because everyone has gotten stuck there at some point.

Yes, exactly that. Using AI agents totally feels like middle management work. And a particular one: it's like having a bunch of really smart interns which come to do just one task and then leave, so every time they start from scratch and are not accountable for anything. So, the critical skills are very much aligned with the management ones: good onboarding, good delegation and good reporting.
