Genesis 17:19 records His direct words to Abraham: “Sarah your wife shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name Isaac. I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his offspring after him.” Genesis 17:21 reinforces this without ambiguity: “But I will establish my covenant with Isaac, whom Sarah shall bear to you at this time next year.” Genesis 21:12 states the principle in unmistakable terms: “Through Isaac shall your offspring be named.” This is not a suggestion or a preference. It is Jehovah’s declared appointment of the covenant heir. Genesis 22:2 identifies the son offered in obedience as “your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love.” The text names Isaac repeatedly and explicitly. Genesis 22:18 then connects the obedience to the universal blessing: “In your offspring shall all the nations of the earth be blessed.” The line continues without deviation. Jehovah repeats the promise to Jacob in Genesis 28:13-14. The scepter is tied to Judah in Genesis 49:10. The Davidic covenant in 2 Samuel 7:12-16 narrows it further. Matthew 1:1 and Galatians 3:16 identify the final Seed as Jesus Christ, through whom the blessing reaches all nations by faith. ISLAMIC CLAIMS DIRECTLY CONTRADICT THE INSPIRED TEXT Islamic tradition asserts that Ishmael was the son of promise and the one offered in sacrifice. This claim has no support in the biblical record. The Quran’s own sacrifice narrative in Quran 37:102-107 refers only to “his son” without ever naming Ishmael. Later Islamic tradition simply inserted Ishmael into the story centuries after the events. Quran 2:125-127 describes Abraham and Ishmael raising the foundations of the House, yet this passage does not redefine the covenant promises Jehovah made in Genesis. The real meaning of these Quranic texts in Islamic usage is to reassign the central role in Abraham’s story to Ishmael and thereby support an entirely different religious system. This later tradition cannot override the clear, repeated, and earlier testimony of Genesis that names Isaac as the covenant son. THE FUNDAMENTAL THEOLOGICAL CONTRAST The Bible narrows the promise to Isaac because the blessing is ultimately Christ-centered. Galatians 3:16 states that the promises were made to Abraham “and to his offspring,” and identifies that offspring as Christ. The blessing of all nations comes through faith in the finished work of the promised Seed, not through physical descent or later religious claims. Islamic doctrine rejects this fulfillment. It denies that Jesus is the divine Son of God, rejects His sacrificial death on the cross, and denies His bodily resurrection. By elevating Ishmael as the heir, the tradition displaces the very line through which Jehovah declared the blessing would come. There is no coherence between a system that honors Ishmael as the channel of promise and the biblical revelation that the blessing reaches the nations only through the Seed who is Christ. REAL-WORLD IMPLICATIONS OF THIS DIVIDE This is not a minor dispute over ancestry or family pride. It concerns the integrity of Jehovah’s redemptive purpose and the only means by which all mankind can receive blessing. Accepting the Islamic claim requires rejecting the plain words of Genesis and the New Testament witness that Jesus Christ is the promised Seed. Souls are at stake. People need the truth about the covenant, the Seed, sin, and salvation. Christians must speak this truth plainly when engaging Muslims, without softening the massive contradiction between the biblical record and Islamic tradition. Love for neighbor does not require compromising the clear teaching of Scripture. The promise to bless all nations stands fulfilled in Jesus Christ alone. Any teaching that substitutes Ishmael for Isaac severs people from the only true source of that blessing. When I was Muslim, I was told the Bible was full of contradictions. So one day I picked up the Torah and read it for myself. What I found wasn't contradiction. It was consistency. Detailed timelines. Genealogies. Covenants. Laws. Sacrifices. Mercy. Prophecy. A unified story unfolding across generations with God's fingerprints all over it. Then I went back and compared those same stories in the Quran. Moses. Abraham. Noah. Joseph. Same names. Different details. Different timelines. Different theology. That forced me to ask a simple question: If the Torah was corrupted, who corrupted it, and what did they gain? Did it make Israel look better? No. The text constantly exposes their failures. Did it make the prophets look perfect? No. David sins. Moses disobeys. The heroes are flawed and God alone gets the glory. Did it make religion easier to follow? Definitely not. Read Leviticus. So who exactly benefited from rewriting it? The Quran affirms the Torah as revelation from God, yet often presents conflicting versions of key events. The more I studied, the more I felt like I wasn't looking at a correction of the story, but a revision of it. Reading the Torah for myself started a journey that forced me to question everything I thought I knew. Truth can handle investigation.
