There are a lot of claims about how New Zealand is doing, but the data shows a very different picture. 🏠 Housing is not becoming affordable The median home is around $770,000. Housing costs rose 31 percent from 2020 to 2024. Around one third of low income households spend more than 40 percent of their income just to stay housed. 🌏 Fast population growth is putting pressure on locals A 1 percent population rise can push house prices up 8 to 12 percent. Low skilled Kiwi workers can lose up to 1.9 percent in earnings when high skilled migration grows too fast. Growth has outpaced planning, not strengthened it. 🏥 Infrastructure is far behind demand New Zealand has a $104 billion infrastructure deficit and it is projected to almost double by 2051. Hospitals and schools in high growth regions are already operating at or near capacity. 💼 Hard work is not enough when costs keep rising Wages rose about 8 percent over five years. Food rose 25 percent, power rose 40 percent, and rents outpaced wages for more than a decade. These are not opinions. These are the facts everyday Kiwis are living with.
